I finally put my engine back together and now there is a ticking noise (louder than my exhaust) coming from the intake. And the engine has no power and it backfires through the intake when I hit the gas. The ticking almost sounds like a ping... like in a coffee can. Ive played with my timing, put 93 octane gas in the car, checked and double checked my firing order, and checked for vac leaks. and the ticking isnt constant w/ the rpms either... I can hold the engine at 2k rpms and the ticking wont get faster or louder in intensity. I didnt put my original intake back on either. Before the HG change I had a stock intake on and now I have my ported one on. My friend told me it could be an injector, what do you guys think?

check and see if there is a busted rocker arm bolt, mine did that once and kinda sounded like that. sputerd and soft on power.

also is your dis. in right? might not have been on the comp. stroke and its off.

any valve work?/ what heads are you running maybe they are shaved to much or the heads have to big of valves.

I would start with the rockers, did you get them set right the proper way, getting them trqed down in 1/4-1/2 turn getting the 20-25ftlbs (I think this is the trq spec.?)? If not your rockers may be loose. does it sound like marbles rolling around in the intake? thats what mine sounded like when a rocker bolt broke the rocker was tapping the top of the vavlecover and the other side bent a pushrod making another rocker tap as well.

have you run if a few min. to get the lifters pumped up?

If its not timing, not vac., then my first guess would be valve adj. and its not that hard to remove a valve cover esp. since the gaskets are reuseable.
