Ticking on startup.. pl help me in the right direction

91 5.0 untouched motor, Advanced timming.. thats about it.
130,000KM on the motor
I drive the car a few times a week. sometimes it might sit for a week at the longest.


My problem is on start up. I hear a ticking sound.. like dry lifters.. it's fast and slows down to nothing in about 1 second.

Is this my oil pump on it's way out?
I have checked the oil level. thats fine.

I was thinking of replaceing the oil pump.

any other ideas?? i'm stuck

sounds like an oiling issue. have you tried pulling the valve covers and starting the car? watch how fast/slow the oil comes through the pushrods.

id say your on the right path by looking at the oil pump, but its hard to tell without being there.

also how is your oil pressure? an autometer mechanical gauge might be nice for an accurate reading.

if this is an oil pump issue. I am looking at a HCI / SC Combo this winter.. I haven't put together a combo yet but which Oil Pump should I be looking at? stock replacement or aftermarket?

A regular mellings pump will do you fine.
