Every winter when it gets really cold, something in my front end is freezing up. I notice it when I'm backing out of parking spots mostly. I don't feel it at any decent speed.
When backing up and turning sharply, it feels like I'm running over something.. but its like something is freezing and clumping up inside the wheel bearing? It's kind of hard to explain.
As I back up, the front end kind of sticks, rolls over a lump, and falls.. it makes a crunching sound like stepping through packed snow. It's most noticable in the wheel on the outside-edge of the direction im turning (the wheel turned most inward).
What could this possibly be? The only thing I can think of is maybe water in the wheel bearings. Everything looks fine from the outside.
