Does anyone know what the proper size for the u-joint is on the tilt steering wheel columns ? My friend's 68 has wicked play in the steering and we have narrowed it down to the u-joint. I was hoping to have the part in hand ready to go one once we get it all appart. I don't want to have to take it all to pieces to find out which u-joint we need then wait for 4 days until the new one shows up in the mail.

You don't replace the whole thing, just the rubber ring in it. Good thing, too, because the tilt had a different spline, and is really hard to find.

And that is a piece that is in the steering column, not the piece that attaches to the steering box correct ? There is no rag joint at the box because he put a R&P setup in there so its all universal joints all the way out.

Those rag joints can be had as a urethane item as well
True, but you couldn't pay me to use one. I was driving a car one time when the urethane broke. Had about 1/4 turn of "play" all of a sudden. A rubber one can be a little sloppy for years and still be driveable.

OK. That now depends on whatever the steering maker used.
