Hey all, i have an 06 gt.
A few mods have been done already but I would like to do more exhaust work. Currently it has stock manifolds(keeping it that way most likely) and a borla s type axle back. Love how it sounds but would like for it to be a bit louder.
I'm looking at the JBA off road x pipe. It's a good unit(I hear) and is 2 piece easily upgradable incase I get long tubes in the future. My question is I've heard from a lot of people that the x pipe doesn't sound good and it's raspy etc and will make the car sound annoying.
How much truth is there to that?? I've heard some on youtube but they all sound diff(I guess the mic doesn't do justice) haven't heard one in person.

I have long tubes with an X pipe and there is no rasp. I do run hi-flow cats and a set of 08 Bullitt mufflers

I believe the cats help cut the rasp down, long tubes sound great I bet. Someone had told me it does make a difference to what kind of mufflers you have. Flowmasters and an off road x apparently are quite raspy

I think some people describe X pipes as raspy because they have a much higher pitch than an H pipe.

Personally, I didn't like the sound of the X pipe because of the high pitch. I had an X pipe for a little while, then went to an H pipe, no contest. The H pipe is so much better.

The level of "rasp" one will experience will greatly depend on you muffler selection and whether or not you run cats.

Cats alone will cut back on it greatly.

An H-pipe will give you a deeper, meatier exhaust note, while an X-pipe will be a little "raunchier" and higher pitch.

My advice....look around YouTube for sound clips and see what suits you best.

I've checked a lot of youtube videos and some with off road x pipes sound horrible in my opinion, others sound very nice and refined. I guess you're right it does make a difference on the type of muffler ran. I guess I'll find out tomorrow, I'll be attempting the install.

Wow, did the install, factory manifolds-jba off road x pipe-borla s type axle back. WOW is it ever loud and aggressive sounding! I'm surprised. It's definitely a different tone but I do really like it.
