Time to Step it up.

Well we got a chance to run recently.

Heres what happened.

His car = 1998 Z28, automatic. 3.42 gears, K&N and Magnaflow exhaust.

My car = 2000 GT , 5 speed. Mods listed in sig.

Our cars are dead even. This was done at a private location, so no need to assume/bash for street racing.

From a dig, he gets the jump untill my car hooks and then I can reel him in.

From a roll (40mph, 50mph, 55mph), I get the jump or we are even untill 80-85 and he starts to CREEP away. He will pull me on the top end no doubt (we didnt find out), I run out of 4th gear at 110mph and 5th is useless as he is still rocketing past 110...

I did not get walked, he did not walk me. Both him and I were VERY impressed that my car gave the fight it did.

I was chirping the 3-4 shift on every run like a madman.

My car has 128k on it, stock clutch, and a madman behind the wheel.

So, dont lose hope guys... hone in your driving skills, and get traction... its possible to beat a stock-ish LS series F-body.

If his car was a 6 speed im sure the outcome would have been a little more in his favor from a roll for sure. From a dig I feel it would come down to who gets traction.

Anyway, im trying to debunk the myth that 4.6's suck at being roll cars... no bashing GM's, because his car runs hard for a near stock auto Camaro.

Just wanted to let you guys know.

good job man.

I got a story as well from this past weekend. i got a chance to race my buddies turbo fox body. its a 306 motor with heads and cams. it has a 70mm turbo running 10psi. he put down 511rwhp and 497tq.

I was on the 150 shot. we went from a 50 roll so i was in 3rd gear at around 3000. we hit it at the same time click the button and i stay dead even with him all through 3rd. grab 4th he pulls a car and a half we shut down at 110.

second run from a 30 roll 2nd gear i hit it first i jump him hard and by the time i shut down around 80 i had him by 3 cars. he was back there blowing the tires off. he has 275 mickey thompson ET streets.

he was surprised how well my car was when we ran. he was like that thing is a complete sleeper. looks 100% stock on the outside but it packs quite a punch :D

run done on an air port. run down airport.

I gotta stick the 200 jet back in and see what happens.

Some opinions I have about some of the stuff you mentioned:

1.) I think cars always feel faster when you are in the passenger seat and have no control, and nothing to hold on to.

2.) Automatics always seem to feel faster to me, I think maybe because its lets jerky or something. I rode in my buddies C4 auto and it felt really fast....then we raced and I won.

Just some food for thought:nice:

Good job mang:nice: , sounds like u guys are allmost evenly matched. So what gear do those catfish come with stock?

Yeah I was very very suprised. Stock I am not sure, he said the 3.42's werent stock, or maybe they are a factory option. Either way they are whining and hes getting a fresh rebuild and 3.73's for it. 10 bolt curse allready, lol.

Damn thats pretty sick man. I LOVE turbo V8's, that would be my weapon of choice. Your car must run pretty strong to have the outcome that you did.

1: That is a good point, I never thought about that. Having a wheel to grip and a shifter to yank on probaly does make a difference as far as getting pushed back in the seat.

2: I agree. It might be because they are still putting power down when they are shifting, as a manual you have that very slight pause where you are cutting power and you come un-glued from the seat, then slammed right back.

Of course if you powershift this is minimized but so is the life of your clutch and trans, lol.

His plans are pretty extensive, but he is starting slow.

Hes going for an SLP lid, Longtubes and a true dual conversion (dumped), and a tune in the near future. He works at a speed shop (yes I envy this...) and they specialize in LS1 cars so he will get good deals cut for him all the time.

Im maxed out on bolt ons minus headers and pullies. Ill probaly do the pullies but start saving for bigger and better things (5.4 swap...) and try to keep pace with him.

Were best freinds so its going to be one of those rivalries that just wont die, lol. Its cool as hell though, we have been waiting for this time since we were probaly 13 or 14 and now its all come together. He has always wanted an LS1 Camaro, ive always wanted a V8 Mustang, any form, lol.

Burningrubber, your posts are longer than Darkwriters :nonono:

Cliff notes please :D

I have diarhhea of the fingers man...:rlaugh:

Cliff notes for LaserSVT:

Buddy has near stock LS-Juan.

We ran from a roll, where I should have lost horribly. I won twice, lost twice.

Buddy is in hurry to mod his catfish. I am about to sheet my pants because his car responds to bolt ons in a way that will decimate my four point secks.

Gotcha! Dont fear the LSX. Our little 4.secks will take well to mods too :D Just get a S/C and smoke him.
BTW if he lost he cant drive and you can
Get a couple NOS stickers and a couple japanese writing stickers and youll have no problem :nice: If that dont work try one of thoes Autozone big arse wings :D

thats what i thought man. i was surprised how well i stayed with him. i thought i was going to get walked hard. but if we went from a slower roll and he had traction i probably would have gotten smoked. the instant torque of nitrous is what kept me with him i am sure. cause heck 50-110 is only 60mph. if it was a 30-110 i would have lost by like 5 cars lol. but since he cant hook from that low of a roll it wouldnt happen either lol.
