Timing Chain Alignment

The gasket blew out on the timing cover and began spraying coolant everywhere. I have removed the timing cover and discovered a lot of slack on the timing chain. I have a new chain set, but I didn't rotate the engine to TDC before removing everything. I was only planning on replacing all the gaskets. The old timing chain is still in place, but since I am replacing it and neither the crank or cam have moved, can I just install it in the position that it's in? The cam dowel and crank key will keep it in the same relative timing.

Play it safe, rotate the engine to TDC. There's 1 dot each on the cam gear and crank gear of the timing set. Align those, make sure the rotor on the distributor is pointed towards the number one terminal on the cap. Then unbolt the old timing set, replace it with the new and you're good to go.
