Just a quick question as I'm going out to the auto supply store. Am I correct that you can pull the timing chain cover without unbolting the water pump from it? I'll skip the water pump gasket if I can get away without removing it.

It is possible without completly unbolting the water pump but it is not worth it, just buy the $5 gasket to prevent any possible leaks when you put it back together...

The top 3 bolts hold the water pump to the timing chain cover, the rest go through the cover and into the block.

May as well just put fresh gasket on the water pump to insure against future leaks while you have it apart.

if your wp is old, maybe think about throwing a new one on there while you're at it? they're cheap, like $40-$60, and the 5.0 is notorious for WP's going bad. just a thought to maybe save u some work in the future since u will have everthing removed already....

My first h/c/i swap, I just left the water pump on the timing cover. It didn't hurt anything at all...
