hey guys i think i may have a serious problem. When accelerating like over 3k i hear a rattle coming from under the car or possibly the engine. It is quite noticeable but it will stop when you back off the throttle. when its in park though and i rev it up to 4-5k it will not rattle. Can any one pinpoint me in a direction?

it sounds just like a rattle on a motorcycle or dirt bike when the chain is loose. and it doesn't do it in gear in neutral or park i rev it and i dosn't make the noise. I have a 93 octane tune and use 93 octane fuel only should i try knocking down the timing?

It's not knocking with 93 octane in neutral and park, lol. It's a common change out of parts rec omened usually after 120k miles i hear. My builder told me it'd be a good idea to change them out even though they aren't making noise yet while I did my headswap. I hear ford does it to crown vic's all the time due to clattering noise.

I'd check your catalytic converter heat shields... If loose, they can rattle and make a helluva racket.

Ok i must admit i was wrong, I had a pre-programed tune from American muscle, i had to turn spark down 6* but after that no more noise im surprised thought it took 6* to stop it, but on the plus side she runs much better.

thanks stangnet:SNSign:

o btw is it common for the programmers to add too much timing, and do you think it hurt my car any?

Thats the problem with some mail order tuners. They don't know much about tuning a car, and don't realize each car responds different.

Some motors take alot of timing advance before they ping, other motors can't take much advance at all before they start to ping.

Yes, prolonged detonation is very harmful to an engine. It just depends on how much yours was experiencing, for how long, and how hard you were running it during that period.

You are probaly fine if you notice no adverse effects now.
