How do i know if my timing chain has stretched too much? The engine is new, and only has about 7k miles on it. When i took the cover off there was more slop than when i installed it, but i dont know if it needs to be replaced or if its ok.
Rotate the crank counterclock-wise to take up slack and mark where the chain is
Then turn it clockwise to take up the slack in the other side
Measure how far off the first side is from your mark
By the book a 1/2 inch deflection is OK
