Timing gears anyone?

I think I will use timing gears for the engine I'm building for myself. I'd like a timing belt but it's too expensive. I hear there's much deflection in timing chains once they reach 1000 miles. I don't mind the noise timing gears make so that's not a con for me (besides I think my exhaust is loud enough to hide the noise)

I'm just wondering who else is actually using this? I think you need to grind a little off the timing cover to make it work, is that true?

I believe most are for non EFI cars. Something about the excess vibration transfered screws up electronics... But dont quote me.

most people say not to run them because of harmonics that are transfered from the crankshaft to the camshaft that could possibly screw up bearings and whatnot. but if you dont care about the noise or anything else go for it. if they were bad for your motor they wouldnt make them

I ran a set in a different car before.. They were LOUD, even the quiet sets are like a super charger. It'll make it hard to adjust your rockers...

They can lead to increased wear and tear after long periods of operation but hey we like to rebuild stuff.

Some people install their cams a few degrees more advanced than they would otherwise to compensate for this deflection.
