So I have a 331 mostly set up for a supercharger dished piston and that. No charger yet though. Anyway I set the timing at 12 with the spout out. I put the spout in and thecomp put it up to about 15-16. I get minor pinging If im just crusing along. It's very wery minor pinging I can't see why I would have to run less then 12 degress of timing? I thought maybe I was mistaking the pinging as a slight miss but All the ignition is new? Any opionions on this?

the puter should have added a little more than 4*, in my experience.

need more info: what is your C.R.? octane gas? ambient temps? stuff like that.

first blush, without more info (like when you heard the pinging), i would run 10* static timing and up the octane (again, we need more info - this info is as crude as it gets).

good luck.

93 octane 180 temp The pinging happens only when I'm crusing along a a steady speed any speed. It does not seem to happen during racing. I'f the car is just idiling and I rev it up to say 2000 it seems to sputter allitle. I hope this helps thatnks for the respponse

do you still have your EGR? if so, is it working?
if you removed the EGR, did you turn the EGR function off in the computer?

good luck.

When one deletes the EGR, it is best to let the computer know the EGR is gone, as part throttle/cruise detonation can result. to let the computer know, if one is having a chip burned or using a handheld tuner (depends upon the model on the latter), one can turn the EGR off (so the computer knows the EGR is gone).

331, i would obviously run the timing down and see how it does. if you cant get rid of it within reason, i would look elsewhere (other than timing) as the cause. there are many things (like faulty EGR) that can cause pinging.

good luck.

It isn't the timing if you do indeed have the dished pistons. Like hissin said, you need to look elsewhere.
