TIMING JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE

OK I JUST GOT THROUGH INSTALLING NEW EDELBROC ALUMINUM HEADS AND INTAKE, I ALSO INSTALLED BBK HEADERS. NOW ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TIMING IS JUMPING ALL OVER THE PLACE WITH SPOUT IN BUT WHEN I REMOVE THE SPOUT IT IS FINE. ARE THERE ANY IDEAS AS TO WHAT IT COULD BE, 6 MONTHS AGO ALL NEW IGNITION WAS INSTALLED , DIZZY, COIL, FORD RACING 9MM WIRES, MOTORCRAFT PLUGS, MODULE IT WAS FINE TIL I DID THIS WORK. PLEASE HELP.

Turn caps lock off please.

It's supposed to do that. The EEC makes changes on the fly to readings it receives from multiple sensors.

The WHOLE reason that you set timing with the spout out is so the timing is STATIC.. with the spout in, it's supposed to change. Pay absolutly NO attention to your timing with spout in.

But feel free to pay attention to the caps lock when you sit down at the computer to post.

Ok so i dont need to worry about how much it jumps around with the spout in, correct? I have the timing set a 10 degrees and it feels real sluggish but as the car warms up it starts pinging. Do i need to retard the timing, or do i have another issue? Sorry bout the caps lock didnt realize it, again im sorry bout that.

Retard the timing and pull codes if you haven't.

If your MAF hasnt been cleaned lately, it's not a bad idea (it can contribute to a ping-issue).

As stated try cleaning the MAF and pull any codes. It shouldn't be pinging at 10*. Carefully check the balancer for any signs of looseness or rubber coming out between the outer ring and hub. These cars are getting to the age where the balancer may have failed (spun). This will give you a false timing reading.
