So car been sitting for about a week. Weather is getting cool. I got it out today and it has a consistent miss. This is an ignition miss that is very consistent as a single cylinder miss.

So I go to check timing and it is bouncing all over the place which I think confirms there is a miss.

Now I did not have time to do koer test. Before I do that will it tell me what cylinder has the miss and since timing is bouncing around does that indicate it is the number 1 cylinder?

I did notice that a couple of the plugs on the cap were corroded green and the wires wouldn't stay on those once I cleaned them without crimping them a bit. However this did not fix the miss once I cleaned them.

Looking for the best approach to identify the cause of the miss.

That's what I was thinking. Motorcraft plugs or something else? Stock engine.

Yep. You can hear the miss and even more so when going to drive it. Throughout the entire rpm sweep.

My mechanic friend laughed when I said 'whats a spout?'.
Before I started hang'n here I could barely tune a fish.

Yes it will. At the end of the koer codes, wait until the last code has been spit out. Then blip the throttle halfway real quick. That will start the cylinder balance test. The engine will idle up, and then turn off one injector at a time. At the end of this, it will dump a single digit code 1-9.

1-8 refers to a dead cylinder. 9 means all ok

Did the test got #6 cylinder on all 3 passes. Took the plug out and it was significantly oil fouled. I need to get new plugs I guess and see if that happens again or if it was due to my pcv problems or if it is a bad cylinder. Probably a combination of both.

Just curious, was it black colored or have a crusty buildup?
Plug reading maybe a lost art.

It was like this maybe not as bad but same type of coating. The funny thing is the last time I pulled these plugs which was a few weeks ago they were showing as running lean due to a vacuum line mismatch on the egr.

This is what it looked like last time I pulled it.

This is similar to what it looked like this time.

Yep all stock. Now going back through my other pics that is not the plug I took out before. So I am not sure how long these have been in there. It was running okay with a slight low speed miss. Parked it for a week and now pronounced.

I am going to pull and replace plugs with motorcraft today.

Verify its firing. Could be a dead injector plus some leaky valve seals over time.

I have a busy day today so trying to get these changed in between kiddo stuff. Getting number 4 plug back in is proving to be a pain in the arse.

I need to remove my cross over tube to clean it so I may remove that stuff to make it easier on this side. Right now here is what I have. You can see that #8 is pretty rough as well. #6 looked just about like that before I cleaned it to see if it was truly fouled (it is). Keep in mind that I discovered the EGR valve was completely blocked, pcv valve was missing screen, and I had oil in the upper intake. I have since cleaned egr and replaced pcv screen and clean iac motor as well. But I am still worried this thing has some valve seat or ring issues. Wife won't like me saying I need to rebuild it and may result in it sitting for awhile.
