Did the mass air conversion last week, and I know that I did everything right, I triple checked all my connections and stuff. Anyway, still was idling a little rough, so I checked my timing with the PIP plug in and the timing was jumping around all over the place, anywhere from 0 all the way up to 30 degrees advanced. I pulled the PIP plug out and checked it again, and it was set at 10 degrees, no jumping. I disconnected the battery and let it sit, reset the timing with the PIP plug out to 10 degrees. Shut the car of and put the plug back in, and the idle was all jumping all around and the timing was jumping again. I also noticed that when the plug is in, the tach likes to jump around with the plug in, almost like a plug wire is crossed. Anyway, I took the PIP plug out, set the base timing to 16 degrees, and ran the car w/o the plug. Car ran beautifly, but I definatley noticed the loss in power in the higher RPM's due to the computer not advancing the timing. Anyway, I was just wondering if it is OK to run the car w/o the pip plug in, or even better yet, what is causing it to act this way. I have already ruled out the knock sensor and the distributor module. Also thew the car on scanners and found nothing out of the ordanary. Any help would be GRATELY appreciated. Thanks in advance.
