I just got in the garage to get my 5.0 running after my 2.3 gotten totalled and i noticed the timing sux. I have a few bolt ons edlebrock upper/lower, cold air, bbk shortys,h-pipe,a/c delete and so on. Its a manual 88 speed density. Where should i put the timing * at? thanx for the big help - Andy

Try doing a search on "timing" or "advance timing" That should get you what you need. From my experience, which granted is limited it has been a trial and error sort of thing.

Its something you have to play with to see where your car likes it. The best way to do it would be on a dyno, but if there is none near you could advance it in 2 degrees increments and take it for a drive everytime you advance the timing to see where it feels the strongest. Make sure everytime you advance the timing to listen for detonation. Good luck

go to 12* and leave it til you go to the track

make sure you pull the SPOUT out b4 you set it and don't forget to plug it back in when your done.

then next time at the track...run it, bump it to 14* see if your MPH goes up..don't look at ET if it does...go to 16* if some way it still goes up go to 18* but whenever the MPH slows down...go back to the point it was best. you can't do it by "feel" cuz it just doesn't make that much of a diff
