Well I have done alot of work with applying vinyl graphics and such but have never tried tinting my own windows..I know alot of folks say it should always be done in a temp controlled facility but the place that does the best work around here doesn't even do that and they even offer a lifetime warranty on every job..so I guess what I am asking is have you ever done your own or helped someone? Is this something I can tackle? How much would I expect to pay for the materials?

I wouldn't.

Tint is one of those things you get what you pay for ... they can be pretty expensive in some areas but that's something I wouldn't want to cheap out on.

A few years down the road it's not that great having purple film with crusty / bubbles here and there.

There is nothing worse than a crappy window tint job. I would have it done professionally by the highest quality shop you can find. It will be worth it...

Carefull if your doing the fronts... ive gottan pulled over twice now. 90 bucks each here in MI.

But tinting the front windows gives the car a clean look i think.

Yeah I would like to do the front too..my buddy has like 30 on front and 15 on sides I think...looks very clean and alot cooler in the car..on the downside I always think it is getting ready to rain (lmao) but the guy at the shop I spoke of has been in business for about 20 years and are by far the best in the area..

If you can do vinyl graphics and such well give it a shot. Buy a cheapo roll from a parts store to learn with and have at it.

I tinted mine 2.5% and it looks good. The tint was cheap and has imperfections in it though.

Critical tips-
Do it in the shade in a cold place. Do it in the freezing rain if you can- this helps tremendously. I did mine on a cold wet winter day and it was fairly easy.

Get a very sharp plastic razor (the yellow 99 cent kind) and use it fresh to cut the outlines.

Blade scraper is your friend

Spray bottle with just a few drops of dish soap (the simple cheap non-grease eating kind. I think that stuff eats the glue on the tint)
