Dude...285s are BIG tires...big enough to make your car handle like it should. Anything larger is just for fun if you ask me. (ok, there are SOME advantages)

I had to fill my wheelwells! At least once!

Next time I will probably go with 315s again, but, if not affordable, I will always go back to a 285. Many more choices in the 285 size.

Sure my car handles better, but to be honest, I have to drive REALLY hard to notice that!

Check the different Manufacturers carefully. Everyone's tire is different! Some will look wider and squarer on those 10s than others. You could end up with a round, stretched look or a squarer, wider look from the same size tire!

MY 285s are on 8" rims!

I'm always here...ask away Chris.

P.S....FIND yourself a tire/repair shop that will fit/remove tires until you are satisfied...mine does!

I thought about that, but wouldn't they get pissed when I don't buy the tires from them? Locally no body carries anything that size on hand, they all would have to call warehouses and blah blah blah. Have you seen that picture at www.wheelreplicas.com ? I wonder if I could try to zoom in with some software to see what size tires those are? Thanks again, chris

No man...seriously...if you order the tires as though you WANT them, get the size you WANT to end up with...get them all ordered and then just mention that you need to see if they "look right before I commit to them" ...any decent custom type shop will let you return them gladly, ESPECIALLY if there is a fitment problem...you just play dumb, as though you just KNEW they would fit all the time. Tey certainly will take responsibility for their lack of knowledge. At the least, they ain't gonna' try and send you home on tires that don't fit, and they DON'T want to lose a tire sale, so they will then get you what will fit.

It has to be done this way...otherwise, their would be no cars with 'the perfect look', you know?

it's eeeeeasy bud. Don't get anything less than what satisfies you.

PS...make them 'price match'.

I took this one just for you so you'd drool and have to have 315s... Remember, those are 285s on the front! (on 8" wheels of course)

I'm going to look for a little concrete info for you re: sizes. Let me look into it a bit. Won't take long. Don't buy anything yet.

don't be a thread jacker please. If you haven't done any suspension stuff, a friend of mine had 11" tt2's and 315's on his 03 gt. they just fit, no removeing anything. I'm not sure how your suspension looks though.

Chris...I looked at some numbers and her's the deal

the 315s are around 12.4 - 12.6" overall width

the 285s are about 11.4" to 11.6" overall width

That's why a 285 is safe with probably no mods, but the extra 1 full inch width makes the 315s a little iffy (exhaust, inner fender, shocks, etc.).

For diameter to match stock you'll want a 315/30/18 (25.5"), or a 285/35/18 (25.7").

I would seriously beleive that the 285/35s would be a good, safe fit for you. Buy the widest tread width you can get.

I had these on my 95 gt. I had pro kit, koni adjustibles 17x9 and 10.5, . They are 275 front and 315 rear. 275 was too wide in my opinion, and the 315's were awsome but i did need 1/4 in spacer even after i flipped the quad. i found that the tire(F1 gs d3's) it's self was wider than most, than say a nitto in the same size. I've seen people with a different brand, but same size fit with just flipping the quad. After the first part of the year i plan i getting the same set up but use H&R's sports 255 in front and 315 rears. Debating on nittos this time so i' dont have to use spacers!! I'll try to post some old pics tonight.

about thread jacking.. sorry i didn't want to make ANOTHER post on TIRES.. since we were talkin about tires... i figured it would be a good place to ask the question.. didn't know you'd take it that way.. seems silly to argue about thread jacking about the same subject...

sorry slobra, I have seen so many threads do a full circle. I probably just had a bad day that day. Do you know if your rear suspension is different that a 03 gt? we probably are asking the same question though. I'll let you know if I find out anything. My friends 96 cobra has a prokit, and saleen racecraft shocks, and his car sits higher, but his tires rubbed on the front inner fender, towards the bottom. same wheels and 265 35 18's?????? I guess each one is a little different. And tygr1 said that he had 285's on his stock 8" rim. thanks everybody so far, chris

Chrisbud...my rims aren't stock...the offsets are JUST right for my wide tires. Yes, I should also run a 1/4" spacer on the rears but I don't...and I really corner HARD in my car. The rubs leave a few new 'clean' spots is all.

I have NO issues at all with the fronts...ok, except for that little place for the windshield washer fluid, but that doesn't even count.

Good luck friend! Show us pics!

295s would be cool but will not be the right diameter for your speedo...not that it matters, just so you know. They're not off by too much.

Thanks for your help tygr! Mine rubbed on that washer spot, so I just made a clean cut around that hump that sticks out, problem solved. You can't even see it when the suspension is loaded. and I checked on the speedo difference, should only be off by 1.14 miles an hour at 65 mph. So as soon as I get some money saved up i'll get those tires, and post some pics, once again thanks all!!!!!!!! chris
