I noticed that Halibrand Engineering recommends a 4.50 backspacing on a 17 X 8 wheel on my '67. Unfortunately I didn't see that chart until after I bought mine with 4.75 bs.

Do any of you have 17X8's with 4.75 bs, and if so, what size wheel do you run? To complicate things even more, I have an IFS, and disc brakes on the rear, so I don't know how much that changes things!

Since its been modified, the best way to find out is to measure. Slap on any wheel after you measure its backspacing. Then figure out what backspacing leaves the wheel centered and most likely not to rub.

I'm sorry, I meant to ask what size tire, not wheel. I'll probably have to tow it down to a tire dealer that has the measuring tools to calculate the tire, based on the wheel choice and the space available.

67's can fit 275's easy, but the way the wheels sits with the IRS will make a difference.

Wow, the largest I've seen recommended is 245's with a 4.5 bs. Yeah, you're right, the mods will make a difference. I've got so many different types of car parts in this Mustang, it's unreal. Well, at least it will be a one of a kind!

I was always told that once a tire is mounted at a tire shop, you bought it, but I called Discount Tire today and they told me that when I'm ready to buy, they'll mount tires on a rim until we find the right fit. Problem solved.

Thanks for the replies.

Putting anything larger then a 245 on a mustang goes against the grain and raises eyebrows everywhere, but if I followed all these magazine articles,I would be stuck with 245's too.

Most tire shop make you buy it once its mounted, but IF you buy everything from them, you can let them fit the wheels/tires till you find one that fits.
