Tire Spin question

on a 2004 comp orange gt. Automatic.

It has no traction control button by the shifter.
If it powerbreaks It will only break 1 tire loose period.


But on my 2000 gt 5 speed it leaves 2 solid marks everytime.
Is there anything you have to do to get the 04 gt to break both loose?

Replace the clutch packs in the diff.

Did someone beat the hell out of it or what.

Brand new not even 8000 miles on it. Driven daily about 10 miles and never in it's life driven hard until I drove it.

If you roll out do you pick up the 2nd tire?
Some rear ends need about 10ft of roll out to lock up both wheels. manuals do both because of the intital shock of the dump

I powerbraked it and it stayed there for about 30 seconds white smoking that tire, i let off the brake and it just kept spinning but going forward but only 1 tire broke loose.

My 2000 gt has no traction control, but from what I have seen on the new ones it's right in front of the shifter in the middle. And hers is a 04 gt with every option and it has no traction control button.

That is weird why the hell would they take the posi out of a mustang.

If it doesn't have posi-trac it won't break both tires loose. If it has a "open" rearend then only one tire will spin. There should be a axle code inside the driver side door jam. On my GT the axle code is "LE" which is 3.27/Loc(posi-trac). Your code might be X5 or Z5 which is a 3.27/conventional(no posi). You could also lift the back tires off the ground and turn one tire. If the opposite tire is turning the same direction, you have a posi rearend. If the opposite tire turns in a different direction, you have a "open" rearend. I thought all newer GT's came with traction control and posi trac. Pearl02.

Wow, you guys are too serious. I was just kidding. All Mustang GT from 99 on have posi and traction control. Are you sure there's not a V6 under your hood?

I agree w/ Silver. Try that and see if the other spins. Let us know because I'm curious as to what's up with both the lack of TC and one wheel spinning.

Wasn't Traction control an option on deluxe GT's and standard on Premium?

I have driven a 99+ GT without traction control.

Traction-Lok Differential axle is however standard on GT's 99+

Are you sure someone didn't slavage the thing and put a V8 in a V6?

On 04's traction control and ABS are optional(ABS and Traction control come together as one option)

I have a 2000 GT Premium and the only option I didn't get was the TC, and it has ABS.

BTW.. yeah I would definitely think something is wrong if only 1 tire is breaking loose. Try to see if you can get it fixed under warranty. If it's not covered under warranty, you could always get an Auburn Pro or Eaton posi unit in there and you'll never worry about it ever breaking again!

I agree, but I'd like to be there when they tell the dealer that only one tire spins when they power break it.

If one tire has substantially more traction than the other,even with a Trac-loc,then only one will spin. The trac-loc is IMO only woth 20,000 miles at best. Every time you go around a curve the clutches wear. There is a procedure to test the Trac-loc, It involves jacking up one wheel and checking the break away torque on the axle,which if memory serves me should be around 200 ft lbs.

If you just stab the throttle from idle,not touching brake, do they both spin? your disk brakes could be stronger on one side forcing it top spin on one side.
