Im looking into getting new tires for my 87 GT. Im going to be keeping the stock turbine rims. What are some good tires that will really hook up? Ive been looking at the BFG drag radails, and the Nitto 555R. Im really considering the nitto's. Is there another tire that will give longer life and still hook up real good? How are mickey tompsons? What do you suggest?

BFG's don't last, and I doubt the M/T's will either, but Nitto's actually last quite a while and still hook a lot better than regualar radials. A 235/60R15 Nitto DR will fit those wheels well and give you that hook your looking for.

When it comes down to it it's all in how soft the tread is. The softer the tread, the better traction...BUT that also means the faster they'll wear out. That's the general rule anyway.

i just really hate nailing it in 1st gear and spinning the tires. I mean yea thats cool..... to a point... I mean yea its cool to be next to a firebird chirp a gear right next to him and blow past him. But id rather have the neck snapping accelration when i get on it

Nitto's are great all-around drag radials. Mine have lasted 17k miles and I have pulled a couple 1.9 60's on them. The BFG's hook better, but they definitely are softer, which means they will wear out faster, and are too floaty feeling (to me anyways) for everyday driving.

I have also auto-x'ed & gone to 3 road-course events on the Nitto's, and they have performed flawlessly.

My next tires will be Nitto Drag Radials...I'm pretty confident that it will solve my traction problems...I got 2.0 60fts on my radials so I'm hoping for 1.8's with the Nittos...

You won't believe the difference with DRs. It is so amazing to be tracking a low-speed curve in second and floor it and NOT spin the tires and slide, just hook like a cat on carpet and accelerate!
FYI, the BFG Comp style are out of production and I got mine on sale at Discount Tire in 235/60/15. They may be out by now....
