Tires

My bald stock tires are 245/45/17, can I put on 240/40/17s in the back without any rub? and will the lower profile make it look bad if the fronts are still 45s?

I believe that different size tires can cause ABS problems, but I am not 100% sure about this. Do you have ABS?

id have to go against this, but i dont have any proof other that i cant think of a reason it would cause problems, and that many many guys run diff size tires and i never heard any complaints. no the tires will not rub, and it would barely look off cause a diff in sidewall of 5 is not much

Don't do it. I have 240/40/17's on the front of my car and the stock 245/40/17 on the front and you can definately tell the difference in height. I'd say put the stock tires on the rear and the smaller tire up front. It looks pretty good and actually does make it look a little more agressive (notice I did say a little).

I'm not sure I see the point in going with those tires for the rear. Correct me if I'm wrong....but wouldn't those be narrower and shorter? You driving a front wheel drive stang?

i can tell you that 240/40/17 does not exist. i was a tire salesman for over a year so i can tell you from experience there is no such thing. unless you live in another country and have access to a tire size that is not made, you cant get that size in the US. stick to the stock size. also the size that you think you are getting is shorter and narrower than the stock size, makes no sense to switch to that unless you want poor traction and grip during all driving conditions.

profile on those shouldnt be too bad and defineately no rubbing. People has gone with 315's and didn't rub.

It will not mess with the ABS Because each wheel is controled indivdualy the rear is not linked to the front and the left side is not linked to the right in any way

That's interesting because the way ABS works is that when it detects one wheel turning at a different rate than the others, it activates the brakes. I wonder how it does this if it never compares the rates of spin to each other. Must be magic I guess... NOT

Maybe if i re-word my self The wheels are controled as singles not pairs. If the a front wheel (ether side) ABS gets Activated it will not affect the rear. At the same time if a left side activates it also does not affect the right. And ABS detects the relative deceleration rates of the wheels not different spin rates
