I had the same problem you're having with the Tremec Tri-ax. The offset shift spring for 3rd gear just isn't strong enough. I'd hit in between 1 and 3 on the 2-3 shift more often than I liked. The Pro 5.0 has a stronger offset shift spring which makes it easier to hit the 2-3 shift. As far as your pivot, it's just something to check out. See where your clutch fork is positioned in the window of the bell. If you can gain travel by shimming the pivot ball, I recommend it. All clutches specify a specific air gap for full disengagement at high rpms. Without enough airgap, it'll hurt you on the high rpm shifts. Just something to think about.

I am trying to save my pennies to justify buying an MGW. I had one on my T5 and absolutely loved it. T5 is gone and the shifter went to a friend but I miss it a lot.

i got the tko 600 (tcet5008 stock number) and im in my 500 mile break in with it and the clutch. i loved my old 3550 standard II and never had a prob in the 6.5g range. it blew a few weeks ago, and im still not to sure how the real seal bent and lost all its fluid. great trannys though, i will let you know hom mine holds up when the 501 miles hits - james

Quick question about the air gap of the clutch, how can one measure this?

Some guys will drill a hole at about 6 O-clock in the bell housing and measure with a feeler gauge. Others measure the movement of the pressure plate. Some measure through the starter hole with the starter removed. I don't measure mine. When I put it together I shim the pivot as much as possible which will give you the most travel. For most diaphragm cluches you should have about .060 air gap. Having more won't hurt but having less can give you problems.

Bringing this one back from the dead, still unsure if TKO500's all have the 3rd gear shift issue, and if it really all is in the clutch adjustment or not.

I'm debating between a G-Force T5 and the TKO500 now and can't decide.

There has been a noted issue with shifting on the tko 500/600 series..

But there is a fix.All that is needed is to contact tremec tech line ,give them the id off the tranny.If its before a certain date(which unless it was made less than 6 months ago).They supply you with updated shift lugs--FREE including shipping-takes a few mins with to install when its out of the car)..Mine would feel like i was hitting a wall sometimes shifting into 3rd..Now after the updated parts it finds 3rd easy now..
I shift my 500 at 6500 and my old tko was shifted at 7200

Just to be sure I'm 100% clear, the only thing you changed was updating the shift lugs and suddenly it can shift to 3rd correct? No pro shifting, no clutch adjustments etc... just the shift lugs.

Yes it went from a 50/50 shot on 3rd to 9 out of 10(everyone misses 3rd sometimes).

Tremec sent my 4 updated parts that fixed my issue(and still running the stock shifter).
