Enough bickering. Its all a matter of opinion.

I heard a 03 Cobra with a Flowmaster cat-back and O/R X-pipe. I liked the sound, but a few of my friends did not. It was loud as hell though.

Not ALL x-pipes sound bad with flows. I have heard 3 BBK x-pipes with flows and they all sounded very good. Not all x-pipes are the same. Somebody post a pic of BBK's x-pipe. It is about as close to the shape of an H-pipe you can get, while still calling it an x-pipe.

Good Reports of x-pipes with flows (personal opinion)
- BBK
- Dr. Gas

Bad Reports of x-pipes with flows (my bias again)
- Bassani
- Magnaflow
- Hooker
- VRS

Not all x-pipes have the same sound or performance. Period!

Exactly. The power differences between x/h pipes and chambered/straight through is so minute, that it all basically comes down to what sound you prefer. I got the Bassani X-Pipe for 180 shippied, and its stainless steel, so its a great deal. If i don't like it, i will sell it and get a catted h. Its that simple, so opinions on sound are all that matter, and on Stangnet ,we know that EVERYONE has their own opinion

I am running a UPR o/r X, 2 chambered original flows, and 3x22" tips. The catback piping is stock. The upper manifold is stock.

I will be the first one to admit the rasp on the X-pipe at certain times. But down low, it gurgles and sounds soo mean. Half/full throttle in a high gear from ~mid 2's - 3300rpm brings about lots of rasp. Above 3300, it flat out sings, it sounds sooooo good. The rasp at the lower RPM sounds aggressive, it makes it sound really p!ss3d off. In fact, I had a truck the other day who was tailing me, and he finally got up beside me and yelled "your car sounds tight bro!". The rasp at 2200-3300rpm sounds like a dirty scratchy moan, it sounds pretty sweet. Off idle at stoplights, it sounds really echo'ey and mean.

The thing I noticed is that when your cruising at ~2800rpm, and gun it, there will be a metallic rasp at first, but as the RPMs rise, it gradually turns into a roar. The transition of the sound is awesome, it sounds like a beast whaling and moaning and then roaring.

The bottom line is, there are positives and negitives about the sound of an X pipe, IMO. But you gotta take the bad with the good, right? In my opinion, the good of the pipe far outweighs the bad. Maybe my opinion will change down the road, but for now I am loving my setup. Makes my Cobra sound really p!ss3d off.

I'm a very fickle person, sometimes I want a deep mellowed tone, others I want it high pitched and nascar like. Maybe I'll get an o/r H-pipe one of these days just to compare. I'll give someone who's local to me my stock H-pipe and $50 for an o/r H in good condition.

I have run 3 different mid pipes on my 96 cobra. First one was a BBK O/R X-pipe with 2 chamber flows dumped, this combo was the worst I have ever heard on a mustang. It sounded like I had cans rattling around in my exhaust. I then took off the dumps and went with the american thunder catback. This combo still had the damn rattling can sound just not as loud. I then took the BBK X-pipe off and went with an BBK O/R H-pipe. I loved the sound with my flowmaster catback, not too loud but had a very deep agressive tone. I then switched to a 99 cobra motor and had to get another new mid pipe so I went with the VRS O/R X-pipe. The car is loud as hell, it is a little raspy, but it just screams at WOT and I like this combo the best.
The BBK X-pipe I lent to a friend with a 98 Cobra on a trial basis knowing it would sound like crap. He put it on his car and it still had that horrible rattling sound and he even had the stock catback. Long story short that BBK X-pipe still sits worthless in my garage and my friend runs my old H-pipe and 2 chambers dumped and couldn't be happier.

I have had this set up for about a week now. I notice that once the car gets to operating temp the rasp quiets down a little. I still love this set up.
