To anyone who has 3.73s

The guy that set my gears up spent a day and a half on them. He said no matter what he did he sould not get them as good as he liked. The gears I got I traded for and they was new in the box but weren't a common name brand. My point about the ford gears is that most of the time (not all) they can be set up using the factory shims which makes the install go much faster.

That's nuts, Chris at Crazy Horse Racing installed my 373's in about an hour.
That was almost 3 years ago, and no problems.
It sounds like your guy doesn't know what he's doing.

You're talking about 2-300rpm difference at highway speeds.....go with the 3.73s. If you have traction issues it's not the gear's fault....get better tires, get control arms, dial in the suspension and then most importantly tighten up the loose nut behind the steering wheel :nice:

Your 100% right. I run bfg 275/50/15's, aftermarket control arms, and springs with 3.73's. As long as the tires are hot, just from driving for alittle while it dead hooks in 1st no problem.

I've got 3.73s and a 2.95 1st gear. It's not all that bad in first, but when I need a higher gear to pull out quick I just start in 2nd.

BTW, I had problems with wheelspin, until I got Z rated tires...:nice:

I going to install a new ring and pinion next week and I am still debating between 3.73s and 3.55s. I'm not really worried about the high rpms, but I'm wondering if the 3.73's make first gear useless. Can anyone comment on this? BTW, I believe I'm running a 245 40 18 which would give me a 25.72" diameter.

Thanks

Not at all :) makes it even better! I can play with the clutch.. well not anymore since my car is...For some odd reason loping  . but i used to be able to play with the clutch or very slowly let catch and it would stall.... Now if i could onestly have another choice i would go for 4:10's all the way! And call it a day! :nice: :D

edit..... 1st is short.... But If i can hook, And i slam the crap outa second and hook in that gear Its a good damn feeling!

I have 3.73s in my Capri and I will tell you the difference between my 3.08s to 3.73s is awesome. I do drive on the freeway and at 60 mph i am turning 2200 rpm before it was 1800 at 60. I like it
