If I plan to stay N/A, will I see much gain (HP or TQ) or will it generallly only help with forced induction? If N/A gains are worthwhile, is it low or high end? I'm still a newbie to mods and there is almost too much to digest. Thanks.

if you're planning to do headers at all.. go with long tubes over shorties..

Many people want headers but couldn't get them due to emission, ease of installation, $$$, and time. But once you did it, you'd be glad you did.

picked up 25 rwhp and 26 rwtq on my LT with new catted X pipe and cat-back. Graph in my sig :)

I posted a couple of months ago asking about the emissions thing because I had been reading the same thing in some posts. I live in Dallas County (TX)
and we do the sniffer test so I was worried. The replies I received then were that headers and mid-pipes have nothing to do with emissions unless you go un-catted or are catted insufficiently. Can someone who knows for sure set the record straight? Thanks.

I live in DFW area in TX as well.. but my emission test will be next year.. and I have catted X and lt... we'll have to see..

as far as i know long tube headers are not 50 state emmissions legal. Jba shorty headers are legal. and there is a possibility that the new bbk shorty headers are legal also. the car would fail the visual part or the inspection with long tube headers providing the inspector knows what the hell he/she is doing.

L/T's are worth it :D. I picked up 22hp and 20lb/ft of torque with mine. As for emissions, its all visual. Some states allow them, others dont. Its best to go to your states dot or dmv website and see what they allow. I was told that some states will fail you if you dont have the correct # of cats that should be on the car  NC is strict, but not that strict lol I just have to have cats :nonono:

I just dropped my car off at the shop to install l/t and new catted x-pipe. I hope I dont have an emissions problem, find out in a few months i guess. And ill find out if you can feel any differance tonight...

I remember reading that if your exhaust temperature isn't high enough then the cats won't work. They need a certain temperature before they can work.

I think the problem is that if you use L/T's then the cats are placed too far away from the engine. The exhaust gasses cool off too much rendering the cats ineffective, or less efficient.

The reason they sell catted x-pipes (even though they don't pass emissions) is that they will pass visual if you get pulled over by a cop and he checks. Most people have to swap out their x-pipes for their stockers every couple years when they go for emissions...especially here in tree-hugger run California.

if it's just for visual then i'm sure that people would rather spend $50 to fab 2 fake cats and just welded them in around the o/r pipe... that would make more sense..

but functional cats are for sniffer test.. guess it's a gamble?
