Ok im gonna put a cam in my STOCK engine. I dont wanna change anything BUT the cam. I have done the seach for a month and just come up with to many different opinions. So i want to get all the cam options in one thread.
1. Crane 2031- Probably my 1st choice from what i read
2. E303- Sounds like it works but people dont like it
3. Crower 11511- i like the specs on it
4. B303- Sounds like it makes power and makes a good sound

if u had a stock cobra and were putting it in the STOCK springs and stuff what cam would u guys do? I just got an A9L put in my car so i can do any of them without problems i beleive. I just need alittle more help deciding before i fork over the cash to do it.

may i ask why you are even bothering with the cam right now???...its not worth it bro...the cam is the KEY piece to your combo imo, but im sure others will agree....i doubt you will really see an impressive gain from adding a cam to the stock heads/intake....the cam is the piece that brings it all together, and needs to be carefully picked to work with the rest of the setup to get the best results. That is why the Ed cams(FTI) are working wonders....

...so to answer your question about what cam i would put in my stock Cobra...id leave the stock cam...it just isnt worth the $$, time, or effort....

i agree why loose your stock drivablity for a little power gain if any . with the power band moved up where you can't use it ?

I hear that the cobra cam is pretty bad and that an e cam will help it pull all the way to 6000 instead of 5200. Lots of threads have said guys have hit the 12's with a new bumpstick, and an a9l in their cobras so thats why i was thinking of it. there is a guy that post's hear and over at corral with pretty much every mod i have but the cam and i want to hit 12's too. ( he isnt the only guy i have seen do it either, unless people are lieing about their time)
The guy has the 2031 and got like a 1.7 60 time so im sure i can do that with my 315's

id like to bring this topic back up because i want a cam in my cobra, and i know alot of people are putting cams on stock heads. So whatever the combo is people are still changing cams, what kinda gains should be expected?

For mild cams i hear good things about the 2031 also , and also the steeda 19. And i may do one of the following along with headers im thinking since cobras already have cobra intakes, and we have small exhaust ports so i think that would be a good upgrade

The stock GT cam takes cars well into the 11's in the NMRA. A Cobra cam, I believe, is more aggressive than the GT.

The stock springs, IMO, are barely good enough for the stock cam. I wouldn't trust them one bit with an aftermarket cam spinning to a higher RPM. If your car is only pulling to 5200, there is something mechanically wrong. It should go no problem to atleast 5500, especially with 3.73's and the Cobra manifold. Not to mention you have better cylinder heads too.

only issue i worry about with changing to a mild cam on a stock cobra is clearance becuase of our 1.7 rocker arms?

What kind of clearance? Sell the 1.7's and buy 1.6's.

Don't believe that. I could throw a cam in my car with .450 max valve lift and have it run like a champ. Duration makes a camshaft, not the lift. I've read that a few close to stock GT's have not benefitted from swapping to 1.7 rockers, which would increase the valve lift over the stock 1.6:1 rocker ratio.

In a nut shell, a steeper rocker ratio is only a good thing if the cylinder head can support the extra valve lift. Further, steeper ratio rocker arms are used to band-aid poor camshaft designs.

Those cams are anything but stock. The rules state that the total dimensions have to be stock, but they don't say anything about the inbetweens. There are only a few people who can grind a good Trophy stock cams, and people pay big bucks for them.

I had a Steeda 18 cam, and I was very happy with it. One of my buddies ran a 12.8 with a Steeda 18 cam, and E7TEs worked over a little bit.

Just don't run a Vagina Motorsport cam. I would strongly recommend doing a little head work. Don't worry about the valve springs.

The stock Cobra tune and cam are both pretty soft. Almost as if Ford was deliberately trying to put a cap on the horsepower. I think you could see respectable gains by fixing both problems.

For comparison, here are some specs from a few differrent cams. Numbers are from EEC Analyzer, I have not verified that they are 100% accurate.

HO : 276/266 duration, 214/210 @ 0.050, .444/.444 @ 1.6, 115 LSA
Cobra : 270/270 duration, 212/212 @ 0.050, .479/.479 @ 1.7, 118 LSA
E303 : 282/282 duration, 220/220 @ 0.050, .529/.529 @ 1.7, 110 LSA
B303 : 284/284 duration, 224/224 @ 0.050, .510/.510 @ 1.7, 108 LSA
Steeda 19: 280/286 duration, 220/226 @ 0.050, .510/.510 @ 1.7, 114 LSA

From that list, I'd probably get the Steeda.

We aren't talking about the old FFW Trophy stock, I'm talking about NMRA factory stock. The total dimensions, the total cam, is stock. It's very easily measured with a degree wheel and a dial indicator while the cam and crank are still in the block. There is no way of getting around it.

This white car in this video is what I dreamed my car would sound like and is why I got the S-Trim. This car is E cammed with stock heads and I love the sound of it. I should have put one in after all the times I have broken the car down. It's a nice cheap cam that will give you rumble if anything.

wow that cobra sounds mean..I'd bet its the stock catback if i had to put money on it. I wonder what it would sound like with mac mufflers. Little off topic haha
anyways i'd love to get a cam in my car just for the sound, i dont really care if it makes it faster or not, but it would be nice! I'm debating the 2031 right now, or the Ecam

i still think an Intake manifold, or some underdrive pulleys would be a better way to go....easy installs for both, and the gains would be just as good...

Same rules apply. Total dimensions are the only measurements that count.

Im not sure about the 19, but the 2031 was specifily made for cobra's or cars with 1.7's.
Planning on a vortech so pulleys are a no go. Now with a power adder i guess a new performer RPM would be pretty sweet. I'd have to think about it.

yea but if u already have a cobra intake , i dont see any reason to change it out for minimum gains. I dont see how anyone would recommend a better intake manfiold then a cobra one(flow rates in stickies) , when u could get a cam which should produce better gains, underdrive pullies also add very minimal gains.
