Lame title...anyway, I think I might have a pinging issue. The noise is definately "metallic rattling" sounding in nature. The noise occurs anytime I push the throttle, wheather its 1 cm or to the floor. The strange thing is, it only does it in drive . If I am in park or neutral and hit the gas, I can not hear the noise. At first I thought maybe my BBK catted x was just a piece of junk :bang:, but if that was the case the noise would be present all the time .
Ignition Mods are...
Autolite 24's
FRPP 9mm wires
MSD Blaster coil
Ford cap & rotor
New Bosch Alternator
All else stock
The car is a AODE with 138 K miles on it.
Any ideas?

Timing or octane issue. Slight pinging probably wont hurt but better safe than sorry. Timing spec is 10 degrees BTDC. Some advance up to 14 might be OK with 87 octane although I suspect you might have to go to 89 or 91 octane to be on the safe side. My hearing isn't what it used to be and I was running 14 degrees using 87 octane but it wasn't until I had the car on a dyno when they told me that it was pinging so bad that they stopped the pull. (Turns out that I also had a Harmonic Balancer issue as well). What I did notice was that on a steep incline under WOT the temp went to the top of the scale.

The Timing is set at 10*, and I only run 87 octane. I have tried to run 89+ octane, but I actually think it makes the sound louder.

I would try decarbonizing your engine with Seafoam, it has worked very well for me in the past.
I just got new heads and a cam put in, so I don't think it would be carbon related.

The car has been doing it for some time now, and it is just really annoying when the "pinging" is louder than my damn exhaust :bang:.
