Too much Brake Booster pressure?

I have a 68' mustang. It has the entire drivetrain out of a 70' mustang though. Anyways my problem is with the brakes. It has power brakes w/ front disk. There is no resistance in the pedal when you press to apply the brake, however the brakes do apply way too much. when the brakes apply you do not feel it in the pedal and you still have another 1 to 2 inches of travel in the pedal after they grab. once you feel resistance its rock hard and you cannot press them anymore, almost like the m/c in bottomed out. There is so little feel in the pedal that the brake light switch will not compress and bring the lights on.
any suggestions would be appreciated

you need to re adjust the rod that comes out of the booster and goes into the master cylinder. pull the master cylinder away from the booster and hopefully there is enough room for you to adjust it with removing the brake lines.
