Top 10 Mustangs

Guess you have to put yourself in the timeframe, in 75 or 76, you had a total of 2 performance chioces, a Mustang or a Trans Am(there was no Z those years), so, if nothing else, the II needs credit for carrying the torch, almost on its own? And, I always thought the Boss 9's weren't thought so highly of, big, Hemi motors, but not well detuned for the street, better suited for Holman and Moody duty in David Pearsons race cars, and thats why they were even available! But, hey, nice list!

I think it was considered most influencial maybe? Even then there were better choices, like a 79 fox instead of the 89. Not sure why the 05 made it, but I can see why the older ones, even the Mustang II made it.

Hey, didnt know my car was so special though. 89 LX 5.0 FTMFW!

I can't stand reading some of the crap those die hard Shelby fans write. They're some of the most close minded and ignorant car guys out there.

Man, this guy I used to work with, guess he's a friend, too, older guy, is the second owner of a 69 GT500. Whenever we get to talking cars, always wanted to race-big smack talker- til he saw the 11.4+ slips from my old 86. I think the Fox shoulda been one of the sedans, but the Terminators definitely shoulda been mentioned.

I just want to ask...

What did the terminator do for the Mustang world??? It was a DOHC motor they tossed a blower one. The Cobra already had DOHC 4.6s, already had IRS, already had every option the terminator had minus the blower.... Why should that make the list of influential Mustangs? It didn't do much, only sold for two years and has to be the one you will see the most.

Now I don't agree with that list 100%, but a 1979 fox should be on there LONG before the terminator.

It would be interesting to see what Stangnet.com, as a whole (not just 5.0 talk), would pick as the top ten Mustangs ever. I know I can think of a couple I would have picked that didn't make the MSN list.

1. There isn't one SN95 on the list.

2. The Termi sent the fox chassis off with a bang, and it was kind of the precursor to the GT500. And I'm not a Termi nutswinger, but at the time tossing that blower on was the most jaw dropping thing Ford did for the Mustang for a long time. ...and it was affordable, unlike the GT500.

That's the way I see it.

Nice! What's the story on the turbines? Is that a special edition I don't know about or just an LX that happens to have turbines.

The '68 GT 390 is sweet.

Yes its a special edition. It is called a 7-UP 5.0. Only a little over 3500 made and only 1500 with 5-speeds. I have one with 5-speed. Its an all white interior and doesn't have a center arm rest/ console.

I thought the Terminator had a 5.4?

03/04 Cobra was a 4.6L DOHC

GT-500 is the first 5.4L Mustang

The terminator motor got it's start way back in 1993. :) It took Ford 10 years to finally put it in a production car

How was the 2003/2004 Cobra NOT influential? It was the fastest production Mustang on the market. It was nicknamed "The Terminator" and for good reason. What other Mustang ,in the history of Mustangs, shares a name or reputation like it? You say "has to be the one you will see the most..." sounds like it influenced a bunch of people to go buy one. This is all on the heels of the 2001 Cobra recall fiasco, it revitalized interest in the Mustang.
