Toploader 4 Speed Or Tremec ?

It depends on what you're looking for and what you're going to do with the car. A toploader is going to be stronger than a t-5 (which is what im assuming you want), but if you're not running a high horse powered car, than it doesnt matter. But the t-5 has an overdrive gear, whereas the 4 speed has a 1:1 final drive ratio. So you'd getter lower revs and better gas at speed on the freeway.

A World Class T-5 Was What I Was Thinking About Since They Make A Kit To Fit In My Car.

I Was Just Curious As To What Other People Would Do.

Its Not Going To Be An Extremely Powerful Engine. But Does, The Toploader Have Higher Torque Ratings Than The 330 Lb Ft Of The T-5?

ya man, you can get a toploader built to handle heavy amounts of power, do you race very often? and do you have the 302 or 351, if your lookin at a 330 torque capacity on a tranny than you better have a 302, hell why not just save up and get a richmond 6 speed :hail2:  then u could use like a 4.56 rear end gear and be fine for street driving

If you've got a 302 and your not planning on alum heads with a stroker kit and massive power the t-5 will be more comfertable for street-freeway driving and will be plenty strong enough for a non stroked 302, my .02

Yeah, if you're not gonna be building up a beast of an engine and are going to be doing some pretty good freeway driving, go with the t-5.

You dont realize how good overdrive is until you dont have it.

Its a 351C with 4bbl quench heads.
Im not going to do much free way driving...Just a weekend driver with some dragstrip action occasionally.

Anyone have a carb and intake recommendation for my combo?

Tell us the rest of your combo - cam, vehicle, gear, exhaust. A Blue Thunder intake with a 750 Holley is usually a very good combo.

I have a top loader with a 3.70 rear end, and I can tell you that at 60 to 70 mph it is annoying not to have another gear. Thats just me though, its really what your comfortable with on your rpms. At 70 mine is turning well over 3000 rpm. And mine is a weekend car too, but some of the meets I go to require 20 to 30 minutes of driving to get to and its annoying to me. So I'm swapping in a tremec.

I agree with Gee Gee... if you aren't going to do much freeway driving and go to drag strip occasionally, I would give an edge to Toploader. Back in old days, NASCAR used Toploaders... so that would give you an idea how strong they are.

There's large and small shaft toploaders so be careful if you are purchasing one. There is also a whole line of Tremec tranny's that can absorb whatever you can dish... 3550, TKO, Race TKO, T56 etc...

Would I be better off to install a good rebuilt toploader tranny or a new Tremec in my 69 SB Fastback?

Ive searched and pricewise there isnt too much difference.

Thanks for your help.

Your Best bet is Tremek TKO - 475 FP of torque. It will fit 69 without any mods. For 4.11 rear you need to get higher 1st gear not 3.28 but 2.89, otherwise your first gear is useless.

Hey Josh, thanks for the link. I'm going to do a swap myself. Question. When they say plate in the kit, do they mean adaptor plate to make it fit my four speed bell housing?
