weird, because it is a hurst shifter on it. (vintage might i add )

and, whats happening is that when its in N, it can only go down.
or it can go to the left; up and down.
and right; up and down.

i'll open up the cover tomorrow and take a look.

what do you think?

You got me there. Maybe time for a new shifter, rods and bushings. Or maybe you've got a Verti-gate, never had one of those, so I really can't comment on them. All my Hurst's were/are Competition Plus's.

oh well thanks anyway, your knowledge of toploaders is amazing.

on the side of the shifter it says "Hurst Super Shifter".
could it have been a mod made by a PO?

If you mean, it was installed by a previous owner, then yes, that's the case. The only Stangs that had Hurst shifters from the factory that I can recall are the Bosses.

70+ mustang 4 spds I believe used Hurst shifters "stock". I know they were used in 70 and 71 for sure.

well its from a 68 mustang, with a 390, so the hurst was an add on later. i guess it was a mod made by the PO. i kinda like it though, its real easy to put into reverse and i like not being able to accendently to put into reverse instead of 1st.
