TORQUE BOX REINFORCEMENT PLATES

I am thinking about getting reinforcement plates from coompetition engineering. But heard about people just welding the boxes without any reinforcements. Does that method work good enough to hold HP mega bite jr.'s without any damage to the boxes? If not does anyone have comp's reinforcement plates installed and have any info on if they're worth the 30 bucks.

I use the upper and lower reinforcements by UMI performance at UMI PERFORMACE.COM
and believe them to help over just welding up the stock boxes. I also use the UMI Performance "southside replacement" lower control arms, so I'll let you know soon how well it all holds up.

Defintely get some lower reinforcements. They're well worth it. The uppers don't take stress like the lowers do, so it's not a big deal if you don't reinforce those.

Just go to ebaymotors and type in torque box you can get reinforcements cheap. Or if you have the stuff to do it make them yourself it's easy.
If you hook up hard and have much hp it'll start to pull the bolt through the drivers side lower one.

Rick 91GT on here makes the best ones you'll find. His are full stainless steel and use an extra support plate under the lca. It uses 6 bolts total as opposed to 4. This is what I use. he doesn't make uppers yet so I went with UPR upper's.

Even if you get bolt in ones I would weld them too for extra support.

Here's what I don't get... If you get really good reinforcements, what is welding gonna help? Can someone honestly tell me if I'll be "OK" if I do not weld mine? I just don't have access to any welding, I'm not trying to be cheap.

It's not required that you weld them in. Like said above it just adds a little extra support if you run a bead of weld around the top plates that mount under the rear seats. You'll be fine without welding them so don't sweat it.

can anyone tell me about pinion angle? I know adjustable arms are the best for getting the best pinion angle but how do you know where to adjust it to? I know it helps with keeping the rear planted so this would be a nice thing to know...

Pinion Angles, I found with soild bushing -2 degrees down worked very well, if you have softer bushings -4 max of -5 degrees down work well.

Only way to adjust is with the arms themselves, body height also changes things.

TQ boxes, as far as welding Scott is correct, the only place you can really weld the lower support plates is the top plate that is located under the rear seat. Otherwise your just wasting your time, you can get proper penatration, it is too tight of an area to get into. The $30 weld in plates are anti spread plates that fully box in the lower portion to keep it from trying to spread.

I opted for a set of Rick's plates, and had a local shop come to my house with a portable welder to weld the plates up ($60).

Pinion angle

I know this is an old post but I just have to know about pinion angle now. Do the megabyte jr's I have adjust the angle of the pinion or do I need to get adjustable uppers?

I had problems with my torque boxes on my fox mustang. I bought a couple of kits to fix the problem and still have one for sale.

It includes everything pictured, and installation instructions.

Let me know if anyone needs these...

I was just perusing the threads and thought HOLY **** everyone has torque boxes on their mind. But it was just some dumb ass bringing TECH threads back from the dead to sell stuff. shouldnt a "founding member" know better?

I need to get rid of these before I leave town for a few months so I hit up the related threads because the people browsing those threads are obviously interested in torque box reinforcement kits. Makes sense to me...
