can someone show a picture of torque boxes on a car I have seen replacements but not on the car. How do you "box in" the control arms and what does it do ??? And by doing this what is it substituting for?? Or do this instead of this......etc What is done to beef up the boxes?? Or is it better to buy the "store product" If the cheaper way is good enough for the street thats all I want.

The factory control arms are shaped like an upside-down U. They are open at the bottom. By boxing them in, you weld a piece of steel over the open spot to give them more strength.
I don't have any pictures of the torque boxes. You can look under your car and see them though. They are the space where your lower and upper control arms are bolted to the unibody.
The purpose of reinforcing them is that repeated hard launches can cause the bolts that connect the control arms to the unibody to tear through the sheet metal.
UPR makes a kit for reinforcing them as well as a few other companies. You may even be able to get a decent kit on ebay.
Boxing in the control arms as the poster above explained is something completely different.

It looks to me that with some thin plate something to cut the plate and some bolts and a welder you could beef that area yourself no? The rolled area a little tricky but should'nt be a problem. I just think 200 seems high for the few pieces of steel it is ( I worked with plate 10" thick thats steel)
