I need some help in finding a good torque converter for my auto 03 mustang GT. I am interested in adding the vt stage 2's or the comp cams XE270AH'S both have 2000+ stall speeds. I was wondering what Torque converters could work with either them or a good upgrade to the stock one I have in my GT now?? I heard from a friend I should look for a 2500 or 3000 at a mininum number but would like some advice to figure out if that is good?

Also, if someone can explain what sthe difference between an agressive idol and a noticable Idol?

You should call someone who makes them such as PI, TCI, etc. and have them recommend one for you based on your mods and intended usage.

There are a lot of dodgy torque converter guys out there, go with a reputable firm.

Yank have a great name in the industry and have ton's of good info explaining the different ratings and also why and how convertors work. I'd be happy buying from them.

An alternative is Fuddle racing, all the convertors are built to specification for YOUR vehicle so you know it will do what it's meant too (this is who I'm going to be getting one from).

Nice thanks for the information. I was looking at PI didn't know about TCI.
I was wondering if I should set the conveter at 3000 stal or should it be lower. My intensions is mostly street/daily driver and an occasional track useage.

Any information would be appreciative.

When I buy my converter i am going to call and see exactly what they suggest. In my opinion i wouldn't go lower than 3000.

I highly recomend PI.. and I would go with at least a 3200 for your car. but call them with your specs and they will guide you to the right converter.

Yank is also a nice converter. I have no personal experiance with a fuddle converter.

I am not sure about the TCI. I have not been to impressed with there converters.

Based on the vendor's recommendation, I went with a 3000 stall. I wish I went with a 3200 though. With the Xcal2, I was able to firm up the shifts and raise the shift points to where you can't even tell it's an aftermarket stall.

Why would you say 3200 stall?? I talked to one of the Converter people and they said normally people get is betwn 3000-3200. If I go with the Comp Cam XE270AH's or VT stage 2's should I get the converter at 3200?? I am also guessing that I need to get a new tune for my excal 2 huh??

I believe the 3000-3200 is for a fairly stock motor. I was told 2800-3000. I asked about 3200 and they said it will affect daily driving. Maybe so, but the Xcal2 fixes that.

If you get cams, that will change things. Go with the vendor's advice on the stall speed. You'll probably need a new tune for the cams, but not for the stall converter. Extreme Tune will let you firm up the shifts and raise the part throttle shift points on your own.

Most of the people I know with either of those cams are running at least 3500 RPM stall TCs.

+1 people tend to underconverter when they do cams and such. remeber you want your stall speed to be near the mark where you start to make lots of tourqe.
