What stall torque converter does a 94-95 mustang gt AODE have?
someone told me something like 1200 stall converter and someone told me 1800 stall converter.What is it?

I also been hearing that getting a higher stall torque converter will decrease topend speed.Is that true?

I think stock is around 1800..It will NOT affected top end...that is just the rpm that will brake loose the wheels when braking (very simplified description). It doent effect top end, and a smaller, lighter higher stall converter will bive you much more noticeable HP and TQ.

For a fairly stock setup, 2300-2500 will be a nice stall speed.

I have 4:10 gears along with a few bolt on's such as exhaust,intake,pulleys etc...
So you recomend a 2300-2500 stall converter?
Will I notice a difference on take off?

4.10's and high stall speed = SPIN YOUR TIRES.

Just the fact that you get rid of that stock tin can converter will make a difference... With your current mods, 2300-2500 should be decent with 410's.

o.k. thanks.The reason why I'm asking is because I was talking to a guy at the transmission shop and he was telling me that a 94-95 mustang AODE has a stock 1200 stall converter and he recomended a 1800 stall converter for my set up and also told me anything higher and I'll lose some topend speed. I'm now getting a transmission rebuild done and I figured I might as well get a higher stall converter and upgrade my valvebody.I wanna be quicker off the line and have really FIRM shifts.

As far as him saying 94-95 AODE has a 1200 stall converter, maybe he was talking about a v-6 mustang.Are they're stall converters different from the GT's?

This guy looked as if he knew what he was talking about but his facts just didn't seem right

Also would my gas mileage go down getting a higher stall converter?
What would you recomend a lock up or non lock up converter?

I'm pretty sure all the AODE's use lock-up converters.

Yes they use lockup converters. The stock stall is 1,800 rpm.

You want a lock up. Like I said 2300-2500 stall would be really nice for your current setup.

You can get aode converters that dont lock up. But for the street I would recomend a lockup unit with a 2600-2800 stall.

Also I heard that when you take off normally from a dead stop that the car will be like a slug and you need to really get on it to get it moving.Is that true?

Gas mileage may actually improve, because you have less weight and more usable tq translating to the wheels.

As far as "slug" as you say...It takes a slight bit more down force on the pedal to "start" the car moving. With mine, If Im on a flat surface and let up on the brake, the car does not even move. You will get use to the feel very quickly...WHen I drive my wife's Navigator after driving the stang, I end up peeling out, because I press down on the pedal like in the stang, and that thing only takes a small tap to start moving.
