Torque Converter Question

I got an AOD from a lightly used (25K on the odom) Mark 6. Can someone tell me if the torque converter is going to be ok with my combination? I have a built 5.0 with 3.55 gears, in a 68 convertable. I suppose the question is this: if the mark 6 weighs much more than my car (900lbs), wouldn't that give me a higher stall RPM? Can someone help me out before I button this thing up and mate it to the engine. Thanks Much!

That is the problem the money pit has sucked up all my cash. I don't want to just toss the used one for lack of info. I'm looking for shift points at around 4000 RPM's when under load (WOT). So, if the Mark 6 had a WOT shift point at around 3000 rpm's, then, with a lighter car it would make sense that the shift point would move to a higher rpm? Am I totally off base here?

Nope, the shift point is determined by the valve body's calibration and the position of the TV cable. If your lighter car has it's gas pedal pressed to the firewall then the transmission is seeing the same position on it's TV arm and it will shift the same. The only difference is that you will reach that point much sooner with a lighter car.

My shift kit had a subkit for the tailshaft regulator with a stiffer spring to move the shift points higher. I would recommend something like that.

As for converters, dont use the stock one! Even if it is from a mark 6, I cannot see a factory car having more than a 2k stall, but more like 1200 or 1500. Get something like a tci streetfighter. Theyre cheap at $350 or so and stall at 3000 rpms which I consider to be the minimum for "pep" out of an AOD'ed combo. If in doubt...pick up a lightly used one on the forums, that wont break the bank at all. As a matter of fact, I have a "generic" 2k stall with about 3 months of light street driving on it that I would part with for $75 plus shipping if you are so interested.

Have fun!

Dont know about Lincolns, but in a Mustang 5.0 it has a 1800 stall speed. If the cam is stock 2500 would be perfect!!

The cam is an XE270. I guess I just have to call the trans shop again. They already think I am dip sh#t for asking how the B&M kit would hlp me out with all the changes I have made to the engine and gears to this point. Conversely, I don't think they have a clue but they came recommended. Oh, well.

Thanks anyway.
