Torque converter recommendations

I am looking at getting a new converter for my car and wanted to see what everybody was running and how they like them. I would like a 2800-3200 stall.

I have been looking at this one. Any suggestions?

you guys are probably gonna slam me, and you might be right, but i have mine at 2500. when i had the 4R70W, i had a 3000 stall one that ran me $650, and i did not like it, but there were tranny issues too, so who knows? this 2500 stall one i have now only cost me $180

That's not a bad price for a stock style converter. Many of us that have upgraded went with a 9.5" converter. With a stock style converter you are limited to 2,800 rpms for the stall. A few manufactures claim to get up to 3,000 but it's hit and miss as heat build up becomes an issue. To go higher you need to get a smaller converter. I have this:

Basically I can have any stall I want. With my stock engine I had it at 3,000 when I changed engines I had Andre restall it to 3,200 based on the new engine setup.

I tried TWO of the cheaper stock style converters with no luck. One stalled less than my stock converter, the other had the stator in backwards and shredded glitter in my fresh transmission.

Sounds good i forgot about Edge. I have looked at TCI but they want right at $700 for one. I have looked for Yank but I could not find one by them, but they would prolly want about $700 too.

How is the drivability with the Edge?

I daily drive a 4200 stall on a 4000lb car with no issues.
A proper lockup schedule is key. Modular engines especially require stall. Anyone saying 2500 stall on a mod motor doesn't have a clue as the stock converter stalled that. I build converters and generally suggest at least 3200 in a lockup application. Aod's are more sensitive to heat buildup as are c4's.

+3.......I am pleased with the 9.5....set at 3400....perfect for my set up..
I wasted 250.00 on a cheaper stall......you get what you pay for....don't pull it twice...lol

Go yourself a favor and spend the money on a solid converter from Ultimate Converter Concepts.

Happy with Edge here as well. Running very aggressive locking schedule on sticky tires and it takes it.

Drivability is good. The only issues I've had, is STEEP hills on a slick surface (ie. wet). It makes it tough to climb without spinning issues. I actually had one I had to back down it and hit it a little faster.

Sounds great I guess I will be putting back for one ASAP! I did not want a stall until I rode in my frinds Marrow and all I can say is WOW! I believe it is a better SOTP feeling compaired to gears.

My car n/a goes 13.9/14.0. Biggest difference was my Edge 3000 RPM converter as well.

Right at a full second. Gears only gave me a half second.

I picked up a half second the first trip to the track. I picked up more once I learned how to launch the car. I still had the best results from hitting WOT from a dead idle. However, with the 331, now there's no way my street tires or drag radials will take that. I have a set of ET Streets to try this spring. We'll see if those will hold. If so, we'll see if they will hold a 125 shot launch as well.

With the Nittos and converter I was able to cut 1.76-1.80 60s consistently. Launching off idle w/ a quick half stab then flooring it when it was rolling. Lotta practice on the street to get that right.

ET Streets are on next time, my latest mods have thrown traction with the Nittos out the window.
