I am getting ready to install a new torque converter (Edge Racing Products 2,400-2,600 stall) soon and want to know if I need to get anything other than the converter for the install. Gaskets, etc. I am also putting a Transgo Performance shift kit in at the same time. I picked up a filter and it looks like the shift kit comes with all the gaskets needed for that. Anything else I should be thinking about while I'm doing this? I'd like to make this a one shot deal for the transmission and hopefully not have to think about it for a long time.

transmission cooler. the C4 will heat up with the additional slipping

Some tranny fluid?
If I remember correctly its about 6 to 8 quarts with the torque converter.
or was that for the benz??

Definitely get a good (big) stacked plate tranny cooler. The converter will make more heat in the trans. Nice choice on the Edge converter and the TransGo shift kit I've got the same.

at the 2400-2600 stall, I doubt he is going to make alot of heat anyways. My 10.5" 3500 stall was cooled by a little cheapie cooler and never had an issue.

Currently im at a 5000 stall 8" with the large B&M trans cooler. So far the warmest Ive seen it get is 170 and thats in some 107 degree heat going to a cruise in town. If you can afford a good cooler, then go for it.

Another thing you can add is a deep sump alum finned trans pan. That will help with your cooling of the trans fluid.

Thanks for the input guys. Andre at Edge Converters doesn't seem to think I will need an additional cooler. I'm hoping that with the shift kit making the tranny more efficient that I will be ok without a cooler for now.

in front of the radiator is the usual place.

He told me the same thing and I took his advice, no additional cooler. His words were something like "if you drive it like you stole it everyday, add a cooler". Three years later I have had no problems, I do have a finned aluminum pan with 2 quart extra capacity.

I thought about going the finned aluminum pan route too but I'm worried about clearance. It sits fairly low now and unfortunately we have speed bumps (mountains) in our neighborhood. Any idea how much lower the pan hangs down over stock?
