Hey. I have a 91 GT aod with the mods listed in my signature.

I am still running the stock aod, but I just came across a really good deal on a B&M torque master 2000 convertor ( 11.4" lockup, stalls between 1900-2100) and i was wondering if it would be worth snagging it up. The stall speed is a little lower than I really want but its going to be a while before I can build the aod i want. So do you guys think I should buy it or wait? Also If i buy it, i am going to install a transgo shift kit.

It'll be better than stock. How good a deal are we talking about? Shift kit is a definite.

Absolutely dont waste your time. Seriously. I put a 2k stall in there and it was every bit as flat as the factory 1.5k. The 3k really woke up the car, however.

Dropping the AOD is no fun at all. It is super heavy (200 lbs) and fluid will be everywhere (15 quarts at $5 a quart, expensive operation to boot)....then you need to put it all back together.

Just save up and do it all at once. Drop the AOD, rebuild it with performance parts, add a shift kit and 3k stall and then slap it back together. The 2k stall incremental change wont make it worth the effort.

Dont waste you $$$$ on it!!!!

Edge racing, 2800 stall-the way to go!
B&M is good for tranny pans, shifters-thats about it in my opinion! and i have both-no complaints, but i heard there TC are crap!

Thats what i figured. Its going to be a long time before I will be able to afford rebuilding the tranny with all the **** I want, so I think I am just going to throw the convertor and shift kit in


Im getting the convertor for 100 and the transgo for 70. Both new

I wouldn't even bother. You'll hardly notice a difference with that small of an increase install. Go to www.edgeracingconverters.com and check out their stuff. For a couple hundred more you'll get 10X the converter. You don't have to completely rebuild the trans to use a better stall. I dropped an Edge 9.5" 3000 stall into my bone stock aod and it picked up over a swecond in ET. A good trans cooler is about all you'll need for now. With the right stall and the parts you have already you'll be looking 13's all day long.

Some food for thought if I may....

That converter is being sold off for $100 for a REASON. Apparently someone else didnt want it.......why could that be?

I would listen to these good folks and not waste your time with that 2k.

I'm not a fan of B&M's converters but I don't think a 2000 stall is that bad. Alot of it depends on what you want to do with the car. On a mostly stock car being built for the streets a 2000 to 2400 stall should be fine. If you plan on more extreme mods or a building the car mostly for the drag strip then I go with something more agressive like a 2800 or 3000 stall. Just my opinion.

I never said it wouldnt work....(you know barring actual damage to the unit itself)...it will propel the car forward slightly better than the 1500 stall. Its just not worth the trouble of swapping it in. If it was a small thing like bolting down some 1.7 roller rockers, an easy mod where you pull 2 valve covers and slap the parts on, I'd say go for it. But to install a converter, you need to take the whole 200 lb transmission out, which is no small deal.

My best analogy is dropping 3.27 gears into a factory 5-speed. Sure, you'll see a gain, but nothing worth the cost and trouble of implementing it.

stay away from B&M the only good thing they make is there tranny cooler.Precision Ind's makes the best converter for a 5.0,,,but I hear alot of good things about Edge converters...1800 is the stall speed for a stock converter.
