What's up everyone. I just got the Torque Thrustt IIs - 17x11 (R) and 17x9.5 (F). According to ARE these are the wheels for 94 up Mustang - the catalog did not exclude Cobras. I test fitted my front Torque Thrust IIs wheels and they did not clear my Cobra break caliper. I was told they would. I've done some research on wheel spacers but have not come across anything regarding Torque Thrust IIs and Cobra breaks. I don't have tires yet. Tomorrow I'm calling the vendor and ARE to see what's up.

1. Anybody else have this problem? If so what did you do correct?

2. If I use spacers, how do you think that would look up front? Will it push the wheel pass the edge of the fender?

Please provide any and all opinions.

Thanks

i've always heard that any 17" wheel will clear cobra brakes. Maybe its a wrong backspacing or something...

I've always heard the same. What backspacing are they?

Thats odd because my 17X9 Cobra Rs will clear my HUGE Brembo 4 piston calipers. It's only by like 3mm, but they clear.

I don't have the Cobra brakes yet ..... but my 17" Bullitts were +24mm & +27mm .... if that tells you anything. (And I know of others with these wheels running Cobra brakes)

Al

I know some members here run those wheels but I guess they have not seen your thread yet.

A guy on the Corral named Gary, screen name yellow95, runs those wheels.

See what he has to say.

Uhmm. I spoke with ARE and they say that they do not fit, even though their catalog states "94 and up Mustangs" without stating except Cobras. I told them the catalog is misleading and that they should let the buyer know that they do not fit Cobras. I am on them like a pit bull now.

I like the wheels though and will probably go with spacers (1/4" maybe). I will get some washers to test the size I need. Hopefully the wheels will not go past the fender.

i think it looks great when the wheels go past the fender, only by a bit though.

yeah but it will be the fronts that go past the fenders, not the rears, which is not great lookin, imo.

I figured they wouldnt fit because they are already REALLY close to the stock GT calipers.

I'm going with the 99+ PBR calipers and grind them if need be.

I got some washers tonight and determined that 1/4" spacers would work. Also, Yellow95 confirmed it because he's running the same wheels with 1/4" spacers (Thanks Yellow95). I will see if he has some pictures of his car with the wheels. Currently I have 275 40's on the stock Cobra wheels and they are (tires that is) 10.5" wide - the same size as the Torque Thrust IIs (lip to lip). And they tuck just inside the wheel weld. So I figure if I run the same tires at the most it would just square them up with the wheels and I think I have about a 1/4" to play with. Hopefully it sits flush with the wheel weld.

I understand that I should get "hubcentric" spacers. Could someone explain why, where I get them and the cost of the spacers? Thanks for any help.

Also, will I have enough wheel studs to grip with 1/4" spacers?

Peace
Al

I think that's one of the benefits of the hub-centric spacers .... you'll have plenty of stud. But don't quote me on that as I have never used them.

Thats my understanding as well.

From the pics I've seen, you bolt the spacer on the hub and then the wheel is secured by the studs on the spacer.

I had heard LONG ago that the TTII's wouldn't clear, but had forgotten all about it. Its the spokes that hit isn't it? I agree that they should note that fitment issue in their literature though.

I thought that hub centric meant that the spacer will rest in the center of the hub when tightening the lugs, versus tightening your lugs and finding out that the spacer was off center (with a non hub centric spacer) and having to struggle to make it center up.

Yeah the spokes hit but barely. I used some washers to find out that I can get away with 1/4" spacers to make them fit and a 1/4" isn't much. I think I will be ok as stated before the 275 40's are the same width as the new wheels and they rest about 1/4-1/2" in the wheel weld, now they probably will sit about flush with the wheel weld. Also it brings the wheel a 1/4" away from the struts, which may allow me to get the coil overs - I read here where some guy could not use coilovers because with 9.5s he did not have enough clearance between the strut and wheel. We'll see.

Peace
