Touch up paint

I have had my Vista Blue 2007 GT/CS for just over a month and as I was washing it this evening I noticed two small chips, about the size of a ball point pen tip, on the front of my hood. It is dark so I can't take any pictures tonight, I will in the morning. But my question was, even if I do use touch up paint to fix these, will it not still continue to chip in the future since the integrity of the paint has already been comprimised? As well as, I doubt it could ever look normal again without having it stripped and repainted can it?

I have a couple of chips that size on my hood, 3 on the passenger door and 2 on the passenger side false scoop. I'm not that worried about them being I travel up and down the interstate quite often. To me, the touch up paint will only "cover" the spots(you'll be able to tell where fairly easy). It won't make them blend in since you really can't sand and clear them.

I bought a small bottle of the Motorcraft G9 (Vista Blue) touchup paint as soon as I got the car, because I knew sooner or later something was going to mess up the beautiful paint. As long as the surface was prepped properly, it won't continue to chip.

Requested advice....

This is the way I would fill in small chips:

Get a needle and dip it in some touchup paint. Dot just enough in it so it fills the hole but does not run over. Wait several hours. Repeat if necessay or put clearcoat on top. After it dries completely, you might give it a once over with clearcoat polish.

Be sure not to let the touchup paint run/spill over the chip. If you wind up buffing it, you will more than likely buff away some paint adjacent to it and it would look worse. (You don't want her to look like an adolescent girl with zits!)

Thanks, I will try it as soon as the dealership gets my paint in. None of the stealerships around here had it in stock and I wasn't too sure about trusting an off-brand from autozone or advanced auto parts. Paint should be here Monday he said

Oh, and another thing I may offer:

Metallics are very very very difficult to match so as hard as a paint shop tries, it will not match perfectly and it will stick out like a sore thumb. If you repaint a hood, it should at least be feathered into the tops of the fenders. Otherwise, we'll know you had your hood repainted.

When I had my cobra in laser red, the passenger door needed repair (due to a scrape) and the paint shop painted the whole side of the car.

Your touchup should hold things together fine.

Just to make things all the better, I went and picked up my touch up paint yesterday evening at the dealership. Left, and whataya know, I got rear-ended at the stop light less than a mile away. The funny thing was she squeeled to a stop the first time, and I had room in front of me, (as I always do for instances such as this) so I moved forward some. We were just sitting at the light NOT MOVING AT ALL!!!! and then she hit me.

Figures. There was only a small dent with the paint chipped, and then a scratch, but I'm not settling for anything other than a new bumper. It was new before she hit it, and it will be new after she hit it.

There is something about these cars, I was wanting a CS/Shelby rear bumper in February and whatya know, I was rearended in March. Anyone want to comment here?

I was lucky enough to last a year and a half before I got a chip in my hood. The pin idea sounds good cause u know a brush will make a mess.

The bottle of paint I bought appears to have a pen cap on the end of it to do the "touch up" with. Anyone have any experience using the pen type part? or should I still do it with a needle?

On second thought, I may just have the bodyshop do it while they are fixing my bumper, if its not to expensive.

I got rear ended about three weeks ago too. Some dumb bitch on a cell phone hit me at 25, didn't even hit the brakes.

Weird thing is, when I took it in to the Ford body shop to get it fixed, the first thing the manager said was "wow, another vista blue...... seems like the vista is a magnet for accidents...". He went on to tell me that between 2/3 to 3/4 of the mustangs they repair are vista blue. Apparently we're just asking for it. Perhaps the beauty of the paint distracts other drivers to the point that the hit us
