I installed my throttle body and plenum today, and everything went well except that I rounded a tps screw. I grabbed a saw and chopped off the head not knowing that it was my TPS screw, and went foward with the instalation.

My idle is fine, but I have hanging RPMs. Now Im the ******* that is revving his engine at 2000 at every stoplight :(. I did some searching and apparently I have to adjust the TPS. Now I have a few questions:

- Can I buy any screw to replace the TPS screw?
- What click do I put my key in? I found that I put it in the "on" position, but which click is that?

Thanks :D

You can buy the replacement TPS screw at Ford.. probably a 90 cent item. Did you get the old one out?

'On' is the furthest toward the 'start' position without actually starting it.. aka 'run' position.

okay stupid question, this is in volts right? The voltmeter i bought from sears doesnt have 1v display, so the closest im using is 20v. thing is, nothing comes close to .997. in the 20v display, it reads in the 30s, and no matter how i turn the screws, it doesnt go to in the 9s.

THis might not work but did you try the copper cap mod? My RPM's hung around 1,800 and the cap fixed it. My screws were all ok though. A entire TPS was $56 from ford. I bought one just in case. Then when I took it back they informed me that they don't do returns on electrical items and showed me on the receipt where it said that. sucks.

I'm at my car right now and in the 20v display, its reading 3.72. I can't take out both of the screws and it'll still read 3.72.

I'm taking my reading from the top 2 bungs.

I dont know what kind of voltmeter or DVOM you bought, but most likely there is a button somewhere on the thing that converts the differnt types of voltage readings. What i mean is lets say you turn ur voltmeter on and its on the 20v reading scale...which is why you can't read more sensitive voltage. There must be a button on there (maybe on the knob) that will move the decimal place and change the reading scale to Millivolts, which would get u the scale u need to read that low.

or it's part of the dial in the section, on my craftsman (better model) but same type of layout you'll see on the AC/DC section: uA (000.0) mA (00.00) A (0.000)

DC section: mV (000.0) V (0.000)

I installed the accufab plenum & TB on my 04 yesterday. I have the same problem as you with the hanging rpms. When I messed with the tps the hanging rpms came down but down too much. I shouldn't have messed with it in the first place because NOW I FRIGGEN BROKE IT, ARRRRGGGG!

Anyway, (i feel better now), after looking into my Haynes manual, it said the the tps on our car is non-adjustable and to just replace it. I called and talked to a ford tech and he backed that up. He stated that all 2004 mustangs have a "non-adjustable unit" and that all you do is bolt the new one. He said that most aftermarket tps have some type of screw holes for adjustment but not the oem's.

From what he said, be real careful when installing the new one so as to not throw it's internal adjustment out.

When replacing the TPS just make sure you position the prongs onto the TB blade so that it manipulates the sensor. Check it out to see which way the prongs turn and then slide it onto the TB blade...it may be at a 45 degree...then twist to line up the holes.

Yes, but counter-clockwise and not clockwise right?

you want to test the tps voltage with your meter turned to DC volts. with the meter not connected to anything it should look like this

0.00 or somthing like that it might have a reading like this. 0.02 thats fine to

you don't want to have the range set way off to somthing like this .000

a normal iac will read around .9 at closed throttle and will sweep smoothly to about 4.5 volts at WOT

so if you have a reading of 3.72 volts at idle then you have a tps reading of about 7/8th's throttle. that is way out of the r4ange of any adjustments that can be made.

Ok, after all this time fooling with the tps and buying a multimeter, I just realized my predator tells me the voltage. After the accufab plenum and tb install, i was running 0.96v closed and 4.61 open. Today on my lunch break I loosened the two screw barley enough to where I can wobble the tps from left to right and then check my scanner for propper reading. I'm now at 0.97v closed and 4.63 open. I mess with it some more tonight when I get off work.

Anyway, thanks for everyone's help on this!
