TPS Idle Voltage

You should be all set to go at 0.99 volts. The target range is usually between 0.96 and 0.99 volts. I've seen them way off before, even my own car was set at like 0.85 when I bought it.

Buy the book Probst, and stop doing stupid --- ricer mods with the tps!

As long as the TPS is between ~.5v and 1.3v at idle, then LEAVE IT ALONE! Spend your time putting on the 12 foot wing with the neon on it.
Read the TPS section in Probst. Buy a tweecer, look at the EEC code, do what you want. But, stop doing the stupid ricer TPS mod!
BTW: The TPS is reset at startup AND while the car is running. Around 93, Ford added a diag check to see if the TPS voltage was above ~1.4v at idle and always stayed that high. See my sig, get the book by Probst.

Nope, no ricer mods here. Just making sure my voltage is ok, because the car has been plagued lately with idle problems, random misfires, and bogging. All the plugwires read between 80 and 90 ohms on a resistance test, fuel pressure checked out ok (we bumped it after we checked an extra 5 psi to compensate for a lean condition), along with engine vacuum, and TPS voltage, and IAC valve operation, and the cap and rotor are new as of yesterday. The problem improved slightly... I'm thinking I've just got some old plugs...theyre slightly lean as I mentioned and have high speed glazing....theyre not bad by any means, but....it's all I can think of left to do.

I am with stang&2birds on this one. I think setting the TPS voltage is a waste of time. I have done it before , but when I had to replace my TPS last year I just bolted it down and never checked it with no problems at all. And anyone who does electronics work will tell you that even the best most expensive multi-meter you buy isn't gonna be accurate down to a millivolt. I am willing to bet if you pulled two high end meters off of the shelf and checked your TPS sensor with them. They would have different readings. Unless your ECM is throwing a code for the TPS I wouldn't even bother touching it.
Set the voltage to .96 - .99 and you will be all set.
Yea, the shape, you have done the TPS before, and on a stock stang you don't have to set the TPS. Once you start putting some major mods on the car, (ie. heads, cam, intake, bigger TB) you are going to have to set the TPS or the car won't idle. I swapped a new engine in my car with the mods in the signature, my car wouldn't idle right or the moment that i stepped on the gas then let it idle down it would die. Guess what fixed it, the TPS setting was totally messed up. It needs to be within certain tolerances for the car to idle right. Both you and Stang&2birds have stock Mustangs. Hate to say it, but on a stock TB you can't adjust the TPS sensor. That's why you didn't have to adjust anything. If you think that setting the TPS is a waste of time you need to go and read some more books about tuning.

As long as your sure the TPS switch is operating correctly you shouldn't have to touch it at all really. Especially set at .99.
While you guys are on the subject...I posted on this site and the 94-95 yesterday and got no responses, but my 93 modded car I know how to check and set the TPS, BUT on a 95 I just installed Trick Flow intake, heads, 70mm TB, 73mm Mass Air and the Edlebroch Tech department told me over the phone to set the idel voltage at SIX volts. I told him I did not think that was right and he checked , called me back at home later and said it was. What do you think. By the way my car will not idel. I have NOT touched the TPS.

I was just asking this to double check. My main problem isn't the idle. I have idle issues, but they don't show up very often and I'm not worried about them. I'm just trying to hunt down the solution to an off-idle bog and random, occasional misfire under acceleration. Only thing I can think of is I somehow fouled out a plug, as unlikely as that sounds to me.

The TPS should never see SIX volts..... it operates at v-ref (5.0v) so there fore should never exceed this. The EEC think you are at WOT at anything above 4.5v (I think )
