For some reason I can't get my slicks to really heat up...judging from the lack of smoke. The drivers side smokes decently, but the passengers side barely smokes at all...and when I leave the line the car dips to the right a little. So I was thinking of doing my burn out in 2nd gear to get them to spin faster, hoping that might heat them up a little more. But I am not sure if that is going to put that much more strain on the clutch or not.

I haven't tried it yet, but was thinking of doing it next time out....after I get my 31 spline axles installed.

faster the tires spin = more friction = more heat

I always do mine in 2nd too. That seems to be the general consensus at the track with everyone. It's easier if you have a line loc. I set mine, rev the engine to 5K and dump the clutch. The rpms will die down but keep your foot on the gas and keep them at around 4,500 - 5,000. I do this until I count to 10 and then I move up to the line.

Ok, so I could do my burn out in second and hopefully get them hotter and make them stick better. I launch at 5000, and they hook great on motor, but it comes off the line crooked when I spray out of the hole....I am hoping to get them to hook better and maybe get my 60' time down another .1......possibly.

There should be no problem doing it in 2nd. I've never done it at the track, but I do it on the street all the time in 2nd. I would assume it would be even easier with water.

Second gear at the track for me. Unless Im on street tires, then its first gear and a shorter amount of time!

Yep in the water box use 2nd gear to get the slicks smoking. As for launching in 2nd I have tried it but i was slower then launching in first and shifting to second.

Jesus, here I thought I came up with some great idea.....only to find out that I was the only guy doing the wrong way in the first place. LOL.

It's like saying "Hey, I got a great idea....I am thinking of putting my pants on BEFORE my shoes!"

I don't have a line lock, so I will either have to drop it in 2nd, or grow a third leg and start the burn out in 1st and shift to 2nd.

you can do it either way

i'd just dump it in 2nd, be sure you REV IT UP before you dump it, you have to be revving up HIGH or else it will just bog and die.

or u could start in 1st, just turn your right foot to where your heel is pressing the brake and the front of your foot hits the gas and the left foot gets the clutch.

Go buy a line loc. Easy to install and makes the burn out so much easier.

Its not the slicks that are the problem its the lack of suspension. You need an air bag or some drag springs/coil overs or an anit roll bar. If you have any combination of those you need to learn how it works because obviously its not right now.

Yea, I was looking at my suspension too. The thing is, I was making baby steps with this car, and was hoping to creep into the 12s. So I wasn't really expecting to have to start looking at beefing anything up at this point....but the nitrous shot was a little larger than I expected and dipped into the 11s. Now strengthening things up and beefing up the suspension are a priority...one that I didn't expect to have to deal with so soon. My first step is 31 spline, hardened axles. That is something I can't afford to break right now...I drive my car out to the track.

My suspension is Steeda tubular lowed and boxed upper control arms with urethane bushings, Ford Racing springs, and generic "sport" shocks. Hooking up had never been a problem at 13.1, but it is starting to become an issue spraying out of the hole. So I bought some 15x8 wheels for my slicks...I had been running 15x6.5s. My next step will be adjustable drag shocks. This is my daily driver, so I can't get too insane. I figure adjustable shocks will allow me to still play nice on the road, but hook better at the track.

It's funny, my last time out I was hoping for 12s....now I am hoping for "Hey, you need a roll cage!".

An air bag is a baby step. They are realitivley (that spelling doesn't look right) inexpensive. They will help your launch quite a bit.
