Just got back fomr the track, here are the results.

This is my first time out with the 275/40 17 bfg drag radials.

best time lauched at 3.5k
1.9401 60 ft
8.4721 1/8 et
82.37 1/8 mph
13.1992 1/4 et
103.16 1/4 mph

I just dont know how to launch with these tires yet, this is my first time at the track with them.

Tire press was at 18 psi.

All other runs were 13.4 with 2.1 60 ft.

I ran my car hot, didn't let it cool off, and the humidity was like 60% also so I guess that is why my mph is down.

Any advice on how to launch?
also is was doing a second gear burnout, but sometimes is would not spin it would grab, and burn my clutch some, kind like riding the clutch. How are you suppossed to do it, can I just do it in first gear.

Well that is my first vist to the track this year , with actual drag tires.

I hope I can get a 12.99

13.2 is VERY good for only 103mph. Most LS1's need 107mph to run 13.1-13.2.

I always do a 2nd gear burnout, and here's the trick. BACK into the water box, getting your tread to the middle of the puddle. Then, roll forward to the EDGE of the water. Put it in 2nd, rev it to ~ 3k and dump the clutch. VERY quickly get on the brake and prevent the car from rolling forward. As long as your clutch is strong and you dont get on the brakes TOO hard it'll smoke them pretty quickly. The reason you do a 2nd gear burnout is to get more tire speed. More tire speed = more heat in the tires. Once you see some smoke slowly start to let off the brake while still burning out. What you want to do is spin the tires until you are about 5-10' closer to the staging line. This way you dont stop doing your burnout near any water. Watch a couple experienced drag cars, thats exactly what they do. It really helps to have a spotter guide you towards the water box.

If you clutch isnt extremely strong do the same procedure, but do it in 1st. Just be careful not to bounce off the rev limiter, since it'll climb pretty quickly once the tires start spinning.

I guees I presed the brakes too hard then, ans that caused me to not spin, riding my clutch, clutch smell.

yea I usually trap at 105- 106, I gues because I did not let my car cool down, just ran back to back, and it was hot and humid, humidiy 60%.

Next time I will let it cool down to the N on the gauge, that is what I usually do.

Any tip on how to get a better 60 ft with drag radials, launching techniques?

Do what jtkz said and just pop the clutch no need for slipping it.

Are you talking about doing the burnout, or launching?

I drop it to do the brunout, but I guess I am too hard on the brakes, and it reve down, thats when I smell my clutch. Now I know not to jump on the brakes too hard.

My launches were at 3-3.5k, and I just dropped the clutch.

Also my rear passenger tire moved about 1/4 of an inch on the rim, I guess need to up the pressure.

My best launches on dr's came with a short burnout and a little clutch modulation off the line. With my car I cant just dump the clutch at 4k and expect it to hook. I have a McLeod clutch, so unless I force it to, it isnt gonna slip at all which breaks the tires loose. Its hard to explain, but I usually take it up to ~ 3500-4k and try to slip the clutch a TINY bit right off line, then I fully release it and it usually hooks pretty good that way. What you are doing by slipping it a tiny bit is removing some of the initial shock on the tires, but still keeping the rpms up, so that when you do let the clutch fully out it doesnt bog. I've got 1.85 60's on 255/50/16 bfg dr's like this, and hopefully I can improve on that. Talk to killercanary tho, he probably knows how to explain it better than me.

also what tire pressure do you run?

Do you messure it when they are cold before you run, or after you do your burnout and run?

I had them at 18 psi cold, but after A couple of runs I was going to let some air out, and it read 22 psi.

I don't know how much the difference in size matters, but I've found that 14# at the line seems to work the best for me. That's running a 255/50-16. (Actually, that's 14# in the staging lanes before the burnout). I've only had about 20 or so passes on the BFG DR's, so I'm sure I'll learn more and find better results as time goes on.

I think low 13's on a 94-95 is impressive. I would hope to run that good in my 97 with minor mods. Nice run!

Yeah 15psi works best for my car, and you wanna measure the tire pressure in the staging lanes before your pass.

thanks for the replies

I just gotta learn how to get better 60 ft times.

I just got the ebiach drag launch spring kit, and strange adjustible struts and shocks also. I ahd the rears set at 5 and the fronts at 3, with the front sway bar removed.

I guess Ill try 18 psi cold and see how that works. That was my first time to the track with these tires, so hopefully my 60 ft times will improve.

All suggestions well wanted.
