TRACK TIME (updated)

UPDATED w/ PICS!!!!!!

Headin to the track this Sunday. Island Dragway here in Jersey. Going to be my 1st time... I've never even watched a drag race in person. Never been to Englishtown or nothing. Surprising huh? Well this sunday i'm going with a friend from work and hes bringing his 04 Pontiac GTO. I think last time he went there he ran a 14.2 in it (its a manual and it was his 1st time).

So should be fun Maybe i'll post some pics if I remember to take a camera.

Its only friday and I can feel my anxious/nervous-ness hahaha

POST TRACK RESULTS: (10-15-2006)

I was able to get 3 runs in in the few hours that I was there. I must say it was a LOT of fun. I wasn't nervous on the starting line either! Which was shocking really, I was expecting to be chitting myself LOL. Here are the time slips:

1st Pass:
This was my friend in his 2004 GTO (stock 6spd) #7646 vs. me #5096...this was my 1st run EVER down a track!! Yeah my friend in the GTO missed a gear and gave up right away...

2nd Pass:
Me (#5096) vs a 2000ish Honda Civic #7178 (Carbon fiber hood and headlight covers, lime/vomit green paint and Skunk2 and assorted badges on his door.

3rd (FINAL) Pass:
Me vs my friend in the GTO again for the final pass of the day.

I know I know! I need to cut those 60fts down with my drag radials I had them at 25psi (didn't feel like going lower for my 1st time at the track, figured it wouldn't matter much). I must say my shift light was a HUGE help for my 1st trip down the track considering it all happend so fast I wasn't even paying attention to what rpm I was shifting at. I know for 1st and 2nd my light went off and I was still climbing. Must have shifted at like 6,000-6,1500 (didn't hit limiter).

Odly enough I never had a problem with a burnout until I got to the track here... the 1st 2 runs I couldn't do a good burnout It would tach-out and i'd have to let off, or i'd get too much traction... i dont really know what was goin on there. My 3rd run i reved up a tiny bit and rolled foward, then hit the brakes and let the tires cook for about 3 second Got it down now! Head up to the line and do a nice easy launch. (Launching each time at 3k RPM drop) But on the 3rd time i was paying more attention and fluttered the clutch a bit and made 5500-5600 rpm shifts. As you can see, an improvement in times...but there is still work to be done

well i'm too broke to spend even a dime on more go-fast mods. And even though its my 1st time, i'm shooting for a 14.0 1/4 time at the least

Damn man im looking at your track time on all season tires and not much in mods. I must say thats impressive. Nice work

Thanks, Yeah Ive been told that those times are good....it helps that I can drive really good It takes alot of time and seat time to get everything just right, and there is still more left in my car yet haha

There was aslo a cute little blonde there in a VERY nice conditioned red 66 fastback 289 2+2. I only saw one of her runs, but she ran a 15.5 @ 88mph

Yeah the first time is a rush!!! Im hopefully going back for my 2nd time this Wednesday at Darlington... woohoo! I ran at Mustang Week when it was ungodly hot and humid, and got the best time of what you see in my sig... hahaha. Hopefully I can WAY better that one this time around. Ive put the X pipe on since then, and im hoping to get a rush order on a plenum and throttle body tomarrow if its not too much extra.

I plan on pulling or at least disconnecting my front sway, and leaving the spare and jack. My 60's on my last ones were near identical to yours, and that was on 245/45/17's streets at like 34/35 psi. I was only trapping 93mph though... Hopefully with the cooler air and another mod or two, and some time behind the wheel I can bring them down about 9/10th's or more... lol.

What sleeping bag do you use at the light? Wake up

You'll be in the 13s next time out it just takes a bit of practice

Eh im not really used to the lights, and I was kind of just launching when everyone else was I figured better to be semi-slow than red-light. And i didn't think a .500 reaction was terrible... Not that R/T even matters for hte 1/4. I'm not bracket racing

And by the way those times were with full street trim/weight. Car must have been 3500lbs with me in it if i had to guess. Spare, Jack and all. Even a backpack full of a few waters and snapples in the passenger seat

What kind of temperature were you running in as well? I wish the weather down here would chill down and stay cold so the times will dip

Yup.. 13's should be easily attainable..

I went 13.80 @ 97mph, with a bone stock 2000 GT (with the exception of a K&N filter, which the previous owner had installed), and some MT drag radials.. stock clutch.. stock exhaust..

It was about 55-60 degrees that day, windy with little to no humidity. Really perfect weather I think

Our lows are most likely highs else where

It's been raining quite heavily (12" or so today) and it still feels like 77* out at 8:45. Weather down here blows

I MAY be going to Englishtown this weekend, not sure. I hear the track prep is twice as good as it is at Island Dragway, so I'm hoping to be in the 13s no problem IF i go. My next personal goal is 13.7

HEY CONGRATS! Im really glad you liked it....and now your officially addicted . And IMHO you did a VERY good job...great work .
Its weird dude, like everytime you go, you just seem to get a little better....and pretty soon you will shave off 3 tenths and you dont feel like youve done much LOL. Its crazy how it works...running the 1/4 seems to be more of an art then anything else.

Its ALL about how you get out of the hole...makes a huge impact on #s. Your car has 13.5s in it with those DRs...all you need is a 1.90 60'.
I know because I ran a 13.5 @ 100.3 W/ a 1.909 60' back a while ago....your car should do a bit better than that IMO.

Planning on adding anything else before your next visit to the track?

yea man u will be def be in teh 13s just takes some practice. I myself am going back to the track this friday after adding my 3.73s with exhaust only i was able to get a 9.2 in the 1/8th with a best trap of around 80 i think it was.(like 79.8 ) Get those '60s down and you will be there.

Im hoping for atleast an 8.9 this weekend after adding the 3.73s and then putting some new tires on from the stock good years.
