If I am running Traction Bars (slapper bars) should I be removing the rear sway bar?

The reason for asking is that I have wheel hop and have installed a set of slapper bars and I am having trouble dialing them in. I have reduced the hop but not completely.

I still can't believe I have wheel hop with my set up.
66 Mustang Coupe
Stock 302 - about 225 hp
C4 trans - no shift kit
Limited Slip Rear (of course)
Complete suspension rebuild front and read with poly
1 inch lowering leafs - 138 lb rate
Front Shelby drop and 620 lowering front springs
Front and read upgraded sway bars

Thanks.

How are your motor mounts? A weak drivers side mount could cause a wheel hop feeling. A torque strap could help or a solid mount on the drivers side. We run a bolt through the two pieces on the mounts to keep the rubber from separating. I learned this trick from John at Opentracker.

this is an early 65 but the same concept applies to the late 65+

Latamud, are you saying it could cause wheel hop or just make it feel like wheel hop? I did not have any issues until I upgraded to Limited Slip, so if your saying a bad motor mount can cause the same feeling then I should of felt it even before I installed limited slip. Correct?

It could feel like wheel hop. Its a stutter in acceleration, caused from the engine torquing over which can feel like wheel hop. I will say that this might be an issue if your motor mount decided to let go right after to installed the limited slip. To test, you can start the engine and watch to see if it torques over when you rev it. If your mounts are good then don't worry about them. I'm just thowing out the odd diagnosis that would otherwise get overlooked and is easy to test.

I didn't like the slapper bars, great for acceleration but not so much for deceleration. I swapped to under-ride traction bars and even then had some movement.

First off... latamud wear some gloves man !

Anyways, I wouldn't think that a sway bar would contribute too much to wheel hop. What kind of leaf spring eye bushings and shackles did you use ? What kind of shocks do you have in the rear ?

Eaton 1 inch lowering springs - 138 lb rate
Upgraded shackles - (forget exactly what brand)
and KYB shocks all around

Don't forget poly everything.

Ever eat a sandwich with hands so dirty you leave fingerprints on your food? I have, and have had no ill effects yet. It completes the car building experience.

Ever see the movie Basketball ? Thats what I'm thinking right now lol.

BTW, if you think the rear sway is causing issues, they aren't that hard to take off. Pull it and see how the car rides.
