I was talkin about what the dealer would give him. Dealers wont give you crap 4 a trade in. They offerd me like $2,500 for my extra clean 97 cobra with 95k on it. I sold it for $8,000 myself. On the street, he can easily get 10k for his car.

If you want to get a Cobra then get one. HOWEVER, take your time. I spent a year looking for mine and a month to make the deal.

This fall 01 and even 03/04 Cobras will be WAY WAY WAY cheaper. After a summer of Shelbys and high gas, trust me the Cobras wil be cheap when the first snow falls, real cheap.

You should look at Mach1s also.

Agree 100%.
I think we'll see a glut of SUVs on the lots this summer as well. Compact cars and hybrids are going to kick ass in sales.

I wouldn't count on the price going down too much. First off, people think the shelby's are gonna drop, its not gonna happen for awhile considering the demand of them now. The 2 that the dealership I work at sold before they even arrived at the dealer. I personally couldn't even get a deal on a 06 GT because "joe shmoe off the street would pay full price" Secondly, even if a dealer does get a terminator, its gonna be overpriced and you don't know the condition of it. Its a supercharged car, unless an old man with a bum clutch foot owned that car, I wouldn't trust it. Honestly, if you want the power of a cobra, spend the money on a KB. If you want the power and handling, go with a centri, like procharger (since its cheaper), and spend the other 2k on handling/brake upgrades.

It comes down to what you want, cobra's are nice, and if I could get my hands on one, sure you bet your ass i'd take it, but if your on a budget, stick with the GT, buy a KB and you'll walk stock/midly modded cobras. Wanna take the more outrageous cobras? Get forged internals for the engine, and do a pully swap.

And oops...wouldn't ya know it, you've now surpassed the cost of the Cobra in an effort to outrun it and you still handle and stop like a Ford Fairmont, with lousy resale value to boot.

dammit i wanted to say that!

however the only other mustang id give up the GT for would be a 03/04 Cobra (which i tried already, didnt work out). otherwise youre basically a IRS/6spd swap and a VT head/cam combo away from being a 99/01 cobra, though without the resale value, which compared to a GT, isnt far off. however if you can find a 99/01 cobra with lower miles than your current GT and at a good price and you can live with 320hp or whatever it has for the amount of the new loan and however long youll be paying for another mustang, then by all means, go for it!

The 99 Cobras have the T45 5 speed, & the 01's have the TR3650 5 speed, not the T56 6 speed.

There's no way I'd trade my GT for a 99-01. It already has upgraded everything. Hell, an 03/04 term better be either like brand new/low mileage, have turbos, or is Mystichrome for me to even consider trading my car for it. Speaking of which, I may save up for one in a year and use it as a DD. having both would be a win/win situation for me anyways

btw, I do agree the 32V's larger heads/valve covers make my 2V look kinda wimpy. I remember being parked beside a terminator at one car show and some random guy asked me why the Cobra's engine was twice the size of mine.

Im all for 4V's, but I would rather have your car than a stock terminator. Honestly though, after buying my Mach 1, I was kickin myself 4 a while for not just getting a terminator, but after going to a big local mustang cruise this past weekend, I changed my whole outlook. It seemed like every other Stang there was a terminator, & there was only a few machs there. I know my mach isnt as fast as a termy, but It looks way more badass IMO, & u barely see them. Dont get me wrong though, they are the s**t, & I would still love to have 1, but i will never give up the Mach 4 one. My car even makes Chevy guys (stang haters) say "thats badass"!!!

Yeah, my area is pretty much terminator country. They're freaking everywhere so I actually feel kinda unique. My car get lots of "wtf" looks wherever I go because ppl just aren't used to seeing that. Plus I've gotten lots of props from LS1/2 ownrs as well.

I do sometimes wonder what if I started with an 03 Cobra instead. I know it'd be CRAZY nasty by now. Ah well, I'm still young (kinda lol) and have time for more toys.

+1.... LOL..... The other day some old tweaker with like 1 tooth pulled up on the side of me & said " your cars bad ass man....Damn your back wheels are the bomb..Whoa..U got some badass brakes too..." I know this means nuthin, but i just thought it was funny, & I love it when old timers compliment my car, because they where around during the original musclecar days. No disrespect to the older guys here on Stangnet

Since you are going from an 02GT to an 01 Cobra, I would also just super charge the GT and then add some goodies from Maximum Motorsports if you want to improve the handling. At least with the GT you know the car is in great condition and will more then likely not give you problems after the blower install. Who knows exactly what condition the 01 Cobra is in.

If you were moving up into an 03-04 Cobra however, then that would be a different story.

For the record, I'd rather be in a modded GT and smoke a Cobra, then vice versa.

I just traded my 02 for an 01 Cobra

I've had a 95 and and 03,02 gt's. I'm on my first cobra and I love everything about it. The perfomance mods on a gt would add way up to catch up with my 2001 cobra. The ride and interior is so much better. But yeah if you're wanting to just go straight at the drag strip keep you gt.

Price is way too high. You'll do better buying private than you will from a dealer I think. Youll be better off selling privately too.

I bought mine from a dealer because it had a certified pre-owned warranty for an extra 3 years.

You’ve got to watch some of those "dealership" warranties. When I bought my Explorer, I worked out a deal for an extra year’s warranty. I felt great about it, until I realized that the "Lubrico" warranty that I actually got wasn't worth the paper it was printed on. The deductible was ridiculous and the warranty stated the dealership was actually required to installed used parts on the vehicle if they're able to find them.

Extended warranties are for chumps. Do not be a chump. Grand master chumps go one step farther and pay interest on their extended warranties by adding the cost of them to their loan.
