Tranny and Rear Diff. fluid change.

So my car is up on jackstands right now...and I noticed a gray burnt smelling oil coming from where the driveshaft connects to the transmission. Which sucks. How urgent a problem is this? Secondly, I can't find the filler or drain plugs on the tranny. What I see is the speedometer cable and its connection and some other bolts which clearly arent fluid ports. I have an 86 GT with a t-5 in it.

I took a small pan off of the lower driver side of the tranny...no fluid came out. Inside it was a metal flange attached perpedicular to a cable that leads up through the engine compartment. This isn't going well. Can someone please point me in the right direction?

I think this is what you took off

And this is where the drain plug is

ok its off...yea once u explained it i found it in two seconds but thanks for those awesome pictures. Now this is real weird. The tranny fluid was beige or whatever just like new engine oil. But it smells like a sour apple. That's the only way to describe it. What the hell was in there?

Easiest way it to take the shifter off and fill it from the top. Ford calls for Dexron-III ATF, some people run GM Synchromesh, other people run motor oil, other people mix and match. I'm running regular ATF in my car at the moment, its working allright... as allright as a T5 with 600 horsepower going through it can be lol. You absolutely dont run gear oil in a T5.

I found the filler plug. I wasn't going to run gear oil. Best guess is it was motor oil in the tranny. I think im just going to use a funnel and a hose from the engine bay. I've taken my shifter off at least seven times...I wanna try somethin new. Thanks for all your help.
